Frustrated Northdale residents could be in for even longer power outages after the area’s primary substation exploded on Thursday morning.

According to the Msunduzi Municipality, the fire department did not have dry powder to extinguish the fire and the cables were left to burn out. By 8 am, there substation was no longer burning but residents living close to it could still smell the smoke.

The news article makes it seem like it's just one suburb. It's like five or six, all around the Northdale area.

If anyone lives in this neck of the woods and can post updates, please share. My parents live in the affected area and I'm supposed to be travelling to visit them soon, but at this rate I'm thinking of canning the whole trip! If it's not bloody COVID or the riots, it's bloody ANC incompetence!

No ways this is only no maintenance related. Too convent everything at once. Sabotage to allow for more corrupt tenders

All over the country? Why do people like doing that? You have problems in your part of the country, don't drag the rest of us in.

I don't think that they are competent enough for sabotage like that without somebody dying or at the very least serious injury

Residents of Northdale were on Sunday afternoon still in limbo as to when their power would be restored following Thursday’s primary substation explosion.

They told The Witness that Msunduzi had not given time frames as to when the repairs would be completed, only that Eskom had come on board to assist.

5 days and counting! Was supposed to visit my family but have rescheduled my flight due to this nonsense. It's annoying that the people in these areas likely voted DA but get stuck with ANC corruption and incompetence because of the rest of the voters.

Some people in Tshwane voted for the DA, got the DA but were still without electricity for more than 5 days, it's complicated.

Yes...the DA is in charge of ESKOM and the local and national electricity distribution and infrastructure.

Sad attempt...as usual.

Take your time, you'll get it. In the meanwhile stop jumping in headfirst into discussions, it makes you look silly.

Your incessant running of interference for your beloved ANC and blaming stuff on the DA with infantile sarcasm, makes you look silly.

You can take your whole lifetime, and you will never get it.

Except the ANC corruption in PMB is well documented. Just nothing happens. People get given golden handshakes and sent along their way.

Regarding Tshwane: I guess the DA inherited a perfectly run city and somehow messed it up right?

I'm not in Natal. My family is (at very least my ageing parents had my sister around when the transformer blew). So easy to talk about having a braai when:

1) No electricity to cook, so having to pay elevated gas prices just to have a meal
2) No hot water
3) No alarm systems in areas where crime already was a problem
4) Having to ration power to make sure you can make emergency calls, because you can't always go over to your friend's house on the other side of the city to recharge your devices
5) Having to travel to the other side of the city to buy food, which you can't keep in a fridge because there is no power

And that's just the important stuff.

I've done this a few times. The longest we've been in the dark was 14 days. But just vote, wait and see :coffee:
