Massive private power boost announced by Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa has announced that government will lift the threshold for embedded generating electricity capacity from 1MW to 100MW, allowing households and businesses to privately build much bigger self-generating power.

“We are today announcing a significant new step in further reforming our electricity sector towards achieving a stable and secure supply of energy,” Ramaphosa said.

The president said that the increase to the embedded generating capacity threshold will be crucial in developing a response to the energy crisis that is ambitious, bold, and urgent.

Not right now it won't bloody do. But at least at 100MW shops and stuff can now actually get off the grid and assist a bit.

As I said in the other thread, this is merely a solution that means tax payers can use their own money to pay for something their tax money has paid for but they are not getting.

P.S. I still want to be able to back feed though, even for a very small fee.

It's a start, Squirrel. But you can do more...if you've got the balls for it.

coming soon, entire neighborhoods COMPLETELY OFF Eishkoms grid.
so private security, private power, private roads, private sewage and water,

so why do we pay taxes? for what service exactly?

Sadly, only when people stop paying tax will they sit up and listen. Sad cause that will only happen when there is no one left to pay.

This is a start - but far too delayed.

@eg2505 makes a good point -- whole neighbourhoods could off the grid.

You think power storage for a single home is a nightmare...wait till you have to factor in an entire complex/street block.

This new levels is just good for retail and other companies that can utilize solar during the day. Us Nighttime users are still "Past tense fornicated".
