Massive public sector strike set to start

Four South African labour unions took a step toward joining a strike over the government’s refusal to raise their pay by more than 3%.

The unions, whose members include employees that provide essential services such as policing and nursing, obtained notices of non-resolution after talks aimed at breaking a deadlock in wage talks, National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union spokesman Lwazi Nkolonzi said by phone on Wednesday.

Is the spelling in that picket sign correct for any of our languages? Or it is a product of our school system, and then being government workers not caring to fix the problem?

Does it include Garbage collection guys? Cause I think those are the only guys I actually still see working. Not sure I would notice the rest. In fact I almost got taken out last week by a crazy driver and the metro cop car watching it all play out sat and did nothing, so their absence I doubt will make any difference whatsoever to my safety.

This won't be a big/massive/huge/gargantuan strike. Most government employees barely work anyway, so nobody will notice when they do strike. The next thing to keepin mind, is that workers have been dancing to the tunes of greedy union bosses for decades now, and while most may have failed matric maths, some of them have now started realising that loosing an entire month (or two's) salary to join a strike is not only stupid but also economic suicide as it usually takes more than a year to make up for the lost income. Most have also realized that the biggest reason for strikes, is so that unions can increase membership fees, because the big union boss wants a new range rover. This bullshit of massive strikes or shutdown, it's a dream and it will never happen. Companies are identifying frequent strikers and using the slowing economy as an excuse to retrench those same slackers.
