Read the article...so they're alluding to the fact Ford should just give them jobs. Is this how entitlement is going to work going forward?

I am all for saying that aptitude tests can replace high school mathematic as an entry requirement to many jobs, as it can pick up general intelligence.

Or the students could study the pure maths if they wish to one day work at ford or other related industry. They know the requirement and can adjust their school if they aspire to work for the company.

Yeah I doubt they perform any sort of calculation, the company likely just wants to employ with the acumen as it does show that you are capable of certain logical though and problem solving ability.

Generally they introduce a topic that doesn't require background knowledge and it gets progressively more difficult. When I did one at UP years ago the topic was binary numbers, it introduced in simple language and the later questions evaluated your deductive reasoning.

If you had an aptitude for cognitive reasoning (that math is usually a proxy for) the test would pick it up.

There are very few vocations that require a deep background in mathematics, that includes Nuclear Plant Operators and Neurosurgeons.

I doubt that they are protesting jobs for designers, mechanic engineers, and experts in finite element analysis.

Its a much safer bet that a person with normal math will be a more intelligent well rounded employee than the alternative.

That is the point that @R13 and I am making here.
What I would tell these hotheads is that if that are truly that good then they can pass an aptitude test that doesn't require any mathematics.

Mathematics is a proxy for deductive and logical reasoning.

My bet is that they would fail that as well.

These marchers forget forget science and maths are inherently involved in the entire process of building a car. From designing the equipment and machinery and building that, to designing the car and building that.
Besides, they're going to have to read off a screen as to what's happening next and would have to have some level of understanding of maths if it comes to numbers.
