Stupid article. Most people working on the manufacturing line don't need any mathematical skills.

I cringe each time when there's a big hoo-ha being made and they report in the media that "Sipho from Soshanguve" built his own helicopter/plane/car etc. The reality is that he built something that maybe looks like it, but at most it would be useful for entertainment and amusement purposes. I have never seen in the media that what that Mr. Sipho built could actually perform as what mode of transport he tried to replicate.
Cargo cult lives!

but it would arguably work, we wouldn't have Trains too tall to fit on the tracks they meant to serve,
and we wouldn't have workers DEMANDING Jobs, because they can Dance, Toy-Toyi better than their Comrades.

My mind fails to comprehend going to Ford and saying Give us jobs because were Black....
it simply fails to comprehend it, Im imagining the management had a good laugh afterwards at the Stupidity.

yes, why the F*** not,
Maths and science dont build cars, People who CAN'T count to 10 and are black build cars.

Cars operate by Magic it seems.
Is the article not working out well for you without the race angle? You seem determined to shoehorn it in.

Also, they say people build cars but as automation gets introduced more and more in automotive manufacturing, the less actual people are involved. Manual press line has about 25 staff more or less required. Automated press line can get by with 5, 3 of which are quality inspectors. So yeah.

In a country with huge unemployment and an average IQ of 71, is it wrong for a company to try to employ people of at least average IQ?

This is so typical of South Africans behaving like they are owed a living.
Even if their IQ is 71, does not mean that they can't do their jobs.

Other thing is if you advertise a job in South Africa, you can easily get 10,000 applications. You need some filter to cut down the list of eligible candidates to something that is humanly possible to handle. Maths is as good as anything as a filter.

You don’t need math for manual labour
it does make for an adequate prerequisite if needed
If they are unable to find required labour force and its due to math literacy then by all means drop it and find another process

That of course depends on what the job is. But if the job is in an industrial setting with machinery and hazards, why not ask for someone who has a bit of savvy and has proven they can learn and think for themselves?
You obviously could design a factory around a workforce that is less intelligent, the jobs would be so simple that you would have to have huge amounts of people each doing one very simple, repetitive task. But the issue in SA is that you have things like minimum wage, which simply prices these workers out of the market.

Ford obviously has figured out it is more economical to employ fewer, but more trained workers that can do a variety of tasks.

I believe Ford want's to enlarge this factory, but there is not enough power for the plant. With Math's you can work out how much will be needed.
They want a job to sit at a table near a tea room.

The plant has already been expanded. MyBb had a few articles about their solar installation.
