Mazda2, Ford Fiesta, VW Polo. Which would you get (new) and why?

The Polo and its 1.2 doesn't impress me as much and neither does it's price. But there's not much else to complain about.

The Fiesta is a fun little car, but doesn't seem too be as comfortable as the Polo. Also what's up with all the buttons

The Mazda2 is brand new with the SkyActiv-Tech inside and just feels like a good car overall, with a nice price too.

Did you look at the new Sandero? And VW Up!?

Pretty good comparative episode on top gear last season... those are all hitting our shores now... with the exception of the fiesta which is old news by now.

What price range are you looking at? All 3 are overpriced for what you get.

I just got a new car. Won't say what it is so as not to influence your thought of mind. It's French but it has a brilliant service plan with the works standard. I know everyone now is against French cars but if you have a standard service plan, if it breaks down who cares? Nothing will cost you a cent out of your pocket. This was previously the down side with french cars.

/won't mention the word Clio...

Out of those three I would choose the Mazda.

Wasn't going to :). Out of those 3 I would agree but there are better choices.

The Ford Fiesta is way overpriced for old tech.
The Polo is less overpriced at the base model. It's well built but the options cost a fortune.
The Mazda 2 is the newest tech and looks good but it's still overpriced for what you get standard.

You sound like someone that buys crap because it's not 'overpriced'. The Mazda 2 is well priced for a reliable car.

I don't buy crap. I just consider what you pay for vs what you get. It's the same as comparing the old A4 vs the BMW 3 series vs the Merc C200. Only difference is the options. The mazda is newer which means more standard features.

So rather think next time before judging from 3 posts. I bought a 2nd car and I bought french because it was the best vs cost.

Adding options to a C200 ends up costing a fortune.

What you mean by old tech? 92kw from a 1.0L turbo engine, voice control, hill climb assist, push button start, climate control, cruise control, power folding mirrors, keyless entry, auto lights + wipers - mazda 2 and polo doesn't even come close.

And with Ford, you don't pay for services.

How much did you pay if you don't mind me asking? Did you add optional extras?

The Fiesta I drove felt dated and didn't have auto anything. The engine was good. But that was about it. Didn't even have daytime running lights or stop-start standard.

I didn't see the OP say which model he was looking at.

Everything except for GPS. Truly a remarkable car for the price.

To be fair, I think the Titanium is more in the Mazda 3/Golf class where it is certainly the cheapest with most of the same features (if not more (price wise)).

http://www.ford.co.za/cars/fiesta/models/titanium

Herein is my point. the car I bought is listed at R274K. A GPS added costs from R10K to R22K as an optional extra. I haggled down to R245K including the metallic paint and extension of the service plan to 120000 kms. Standard Fiesta's are damn expensive if you add those extras. Never mind the stop start tech. The 2nd car I bought is a Peugoet 208 e-hdi Allure. Diesel is 1st on my list. You can find cheaper diesel or even a depot plus the torque. Easy gridlock traffic drive.

Thanks for confirming that you buy crap.

No matter which model you choose from each respective make, the Ford is cheaper and has the most bells and whistles.

My personal opinion: Fiesta is the best option in terms of build and fun factor. (I've owned the Polo and Fiesta - Mazda is just boring (have driven this))

Thats good info. Most constructive yet for OP's purposes in that class.

@Brenden_e. Add something to the OP's question or rather go to sleep before you puke from all that booze bud. You just drunk trolling now.

The moment you admitted to buying a Peugeot while bashing "overpriced" cars, you lost all credibility. You obviously don't value reliability. Or know what reliability is. Don't worry bud, you'll learn soon enough.
