President finally admits that lawlessness could ruin SA and vows to crack down
PRESIDENT Thabo Mbeki has promised “every effort” to make 2007 a year in which the scourge of crime is decisively tackled.
Part of the road to recovery is admitting that you have a problem,,, bought time Mr President.
Now let us all hope that everyone does not ignore you again so that we all can live much safer lives in SA.

Didn't he also say high-telecoms prices were hampering economic growth and promised to lower them as well?

Somehow i think we ended up with higher prices... so his track record doesn't bode v well atm...

Maybe he can privatise them like they did with Telkom, and we can watch service delivery etc etc etc go down the toilet, and we'll all end up having to pay exorbitant rates just so the police can "protect" us for 4 days of the month...

Isn't that what most South Africans, that are able to, do already with all the private security firms?

As for mbeki, he has repeatedly proven that his word means nothing. As such I will believe it when I see it. Until such time this is just another case of a politician talking rubbish to try and make himself look good.

Typical ANC approach, talk the talk but cant walk the walk

Trust me they are creating measures to cover their own butt and dont give a hoot about the person in the street.

If Mbeki is serious about fighting crime then Selebi must go. Can't have a crime king pin heading up the fight on crime ... all his cronies will get wind of it way before they can be caught.

That's what lots of people keep saying. Doesn't look like he's listening. Best we can hope for is that the next pres. will have the presence of mind to fire Selebi.

As they say in the classics "heard it all before". With such great role models that we have here it no wonder that crime is a national sport.
