Mbeki, Nzimande

Original reference from Pupa - whatever the intent of the post, it is an interesting debate

This started out as a thread debating the future of the tri-partite alliance ( or so I thought ) it is still an interesting debate and so I will re-post some of the things posted before it was closed

And it's not like the President is pulling any punches on Blade Nzimande wither
this comes from his notes for political overview

Posted by yours truly

"Contrary to Blade Nzimande’s extraordinary arrogance which leads him openly to despise our movement, the 2002 Constitution of the SACP lays down an approach towards fraternal organisations whose spirit and intent Nzimande clearly does not respect"Notes for Political Overview - ANC NEC OCtober 2006

The tri-partite alliance has survived alot of internal strife, but I really wonder how long they can hold it together

What I would like to know is, will a split of the Alliance, really be a blow to the ANC's powerbase, and will we see an end to the two thirds majority in parliament - IMO - this needs to end as it is potentially too dangerous

a response from Digitalsoldier

There was a survey done late last year early this year that showed the SACP only got about 3% of the total anc members. Not entirely sure about the correct % but it was really that low, and also lately the SACP is becoming more like the DA with all their barking

Personally I think a split in the ANC is either going to throw SA into the dark ages or right into true multi-party democracy,

I think the second option is more likely, can you imagine a vote in SA where no party gets more than 30% of the vote and will have to work together. Even better would be the fact that political parties would hopefully no longer be based on race....

heres hoping for true democracy...

I could not find the original link to the survey mentioned above but here is a link showing that even if the alliance split up the anc would still have a majority vote

http://www.news24.com/News24/South_Africa/Politics/0,,2-7-12_1999135,00.html

"Johannesburg - More than 60% of South Africans would still vote for the ANC if the Congress of SA Trade Unions and SA Communist Party broke away from the tripartite alliance, a survey has found."

I hope you're right and that the other possibilty -civil war- is not what happens.

Strange how Democracy works, but the following scenario isn't impossible. Zuma breaks away from the ANC, and forms a left-wing party. This means that the ANC becomes more central.

Now imagine that it looks like Zuma is going to get the majority, the ANC might form an alliance with the DA - the most unlikely of bedfellows.

All is possible in politics.

The only reason Blade is opening his big communist loudhailer is because Mbeki is at the end of his presidency. The SACP would get such a small percentage of the vote if they ran independent, they should thank their lucky stars they have the power they have due to the alliance. Maybe he is trying to talk his way into Zumas good books...
