PFFssssssssssssssssssssssrrrrrrrrrrrrrt!!!!!!!!!

Another big ball of hot air was released by our president.

Thanks for nothing, Thabo. I think the Telkom fart goes
back to end-of-monopoly in 2002 days anyway. You've
screwed our future and our kids'. Five years wasted already
and the overseas competition is NOT going to play AA/EE
with you.

I'll believe any of this the day it when I plug my 100Mbit
connection in.

Oh, and, monkeys will come flying out my butt...

ROFL!!! :D Don't make me laugh like this in the morning man! I am drinking coffee!

Don't worry. We're just the citizens of this country. We don't actually count or anything. There is no need to look after our well-being Mr President. We elected you to make sure that we have at least x% of players of colour in our Rugby team. Coz if we dont, then we will be suppressing our countries growth.

Mbeki has been saying telecoms needs to be fixed for the last 4 years. I dont understand why its such a long drawn out process. ICASA is controlled by goverment anyways. If he really wants to do it, he could have the local loop unbundled.... TOMORROW! 2011 is ridiculous!

When goverment took away the death penalty... it was almost instant. They came to power, signed a piece of paper, and BAM... it was done.

Clearly, they dont care about south africa being competitive with the rest of the world. Just as long as they are seeing some profit from their Telkom shares... its all good! A typical african mentality.

If you expect them to take you seriously mr Mbeki, try to stay a lil bit longer during your next visit to SA

WARNING: Mbeki speak with forked tongue...

If Mbeki really meant all the things he says about Telkodemonopolies and lowering telecoms costs, he would have napalmed the collective arses of the Grim Poisonous Ivyness Creep and her plants a long time ago, instead Mbeki says that !CASA must jump whilst Poison Ivy has !CASA's feet in concrete boots...

hardly a 'FATAL' blow really.

A Fatal blow would be a Presidential / Ministerial directive to do the following simultaneously with immediate effect.

* All VANS to self provide.
* Allowing landing site for undersea cable by any company that can
* Unbundling of local loop
* Giving ICASA Full independence include the ability to self fund.

Essentially the same article here

However, if we look at all happening in this sphere, will the Internet as we know it now still be around in 2011? Maybe nobody should put Telkom wise and we will have the replacement technologies all to ourselves :p

Mbeki already dished out a near fatal blow to the ICT sector by appointing all the inept chops he has. Think the industry can handle another? :D

It is the customers that are doing the quiet diplomacy - especially the ones that have been cut off

Icasa [the Independent Communications Authority of SA] must intervene to speed up the progress of unbundling," Mbeki said after a three-day meeting....

ICASA: "Mbeki who......?"

Ironically Mbeki's statement should have been something like: 'I, President Mbeki, supreme ruler of this country, and the only person with the power to force change, must intervene to [actually do something to] speed up the progress of unbundling', but Mbeki's words are only ever fuelled by flatulence - which in this case was aimed in !CASA's direction.
