Whilst Mbeki has his faults, I dont understand why people keep making comments about him being in other countries. What he does in those countries/un councils/etc is of massive importance. Just as important as if he were to be here the whole time trying to micromanage everything. It is just simply two different leadership styles. Neither one is right or wrong.
Seems like cheap politiking by the people who keep making those comments

Sorry JStrike. Nothing in a different country is more important than the **** going on here.

I have several problems with Mbeki and his leadership style, but the foremost problem: he hardly ever communicates with South Africans. How about telling us about his immensely frequent out of the country trips? He is not the only person in the world brokering peace deals. He should spend some more time in South Africa where he is the ****ing leader.

Edit: he is the leader of the country, he should at least act the damned part.

To certain extent I must agree with JontyB.
President Mbeki doesn't talk enough to the people.

If we understood what all the trips were about for a start.

Why should we have to read everything in retrospect in a newspaper or on TV after the fact?
I know this is not the USA, but George Bush and his Government have better communication with it's people through The Media answering questions.

Ask any Councillor be he/she Guidance or Marriage that Communication is the key to any successful relationship.

I know President Mbeki is capable, but are many of his colleagues?
People will quickly hide behind ignorance and put on a front. I think this is very much the case with Minister Ivy in her portfolio.
It is easier to pass the buck or pretend to be working and when asked anything do the usual duck and dive. Our Local Municipality Officials are fond of this as they are merely disguising their ignorance as they probably don't know their @ss from their elbow anyway. :p

I do agree that the level of communication is almost nonexistant. We generally only find out ages later in a news article

... while the cats away...

nothing happens

then once a year he tells us how employment must improve and telco must get cheaper... after doing this for 4 years in a row - doesn't he get the message (that nobody does anything) - um no - because no one tells him and he's not around to find out.

our dear absent president

leadership not in the ivory tower at 44 000 feet

Jan Smuts had a major airport named after him, that got nationalised to being JHB Internation and just when getting used to it, is named after a certain O Tambo. Maybe another name like T MBeki is on the rename the places kindergarden agenda. I mean T MBeki does qualify for frequent flyer miles - albeit on the tab of the SANDF. Who cares, the State owns both.

Funny - I was also thinking the airmiles aspect.

Our president must be the most airmile president of the world - he spends more time out the country then any other (including bush, blair and koffi.)
