In defence of Treasury’s plan to grow the economy, Finance Minister Tito Mboweni warned the African National Congress National Executive Committee (NEC) that government’s choices are becoming starker, and that urgent changes are needed.

In Mboweni’s presentation, during the third day of the NEC’s conference in Boksburg, he said growth is faltering and tax revenue has disappointed despite tax hikes, including the VAT increase.

In a weak economy, Mboweni said, businesses are struggling to cope with the higher tax burden and South Africa’s lack of competitiveness. He said the outlook for growth has worsened significantly since the February Budget, and that growth is likely to remain below 2% “for at least the next two years”.

Didn't think I'd hear an ANC bigwig admit that... Admittedly only to the NEC... Too little too late.

Click bait. He didnt "warn" sht. He went hat in hand and politely informed the bosses "guys, trough is running low, need to find new ways to tax".

Guys! The trough is falling over! I'm serious! I didn't believe it at first, but now I've seen it with my own eyes!

To whom will they sell it? Cadres that will get tenders from the govermnent to do more work?
It seems like just another ANC empowering the cadres.

Anyone know who owns the Birchwood? Or St George's Hotel? Those two seem to be the only ones used for NEC meetings.
Director Kevin Clarence, his late father, Brian, and late businessman Charles Kawalsky, recognised the tremendous growth opportunities in the business tourism industry, and the need for a one-stop facility for the booming SA business sector. As shareholders, the three responded to the need by opening the hotel in Boksburg; situated just 10km from OR Tambo International Airport.

The ANC's national executive committee (NEC) has taken a decision to discuss Finance Minister Tito Mboweni's proposed economic reforms report at its alliance political summit.

The party is holding a four-day special NEC meeting to discuss the dire state of South Africa's economy and Mboweni's proposed reform

So instead of their being issues with the content of the document, there are issues with the process and protocol...

FFS, we don't need to discuss that crap anymore, we need concrete action to fix the economy rather than consult with idiots who have no idea what they're actually doing.

If you still think that the ANC is in control of itself and the government, then it is laughable. They cannot make or take any decisions on their own. Any attempt in doing so may lead to the ANC being removed as governing party.
