I've got a bottom of the range 13" MBP that I want to upgrade from 2gb ram to 4gb. Where can I get this ram for the lowest price in SA? I dont mind using any reseller as long as I get warranty on the ram. Thanks people :)

Try Cyberdyne - lifetime warranty if I remember correctly.

Frontosa... they sell MBP ram...
Note that the OP wants to buy from a reseller.

Digicape, either in Joburg or Cape Town, cheapest warranty RAM on the market.

Or buy your own Ram for 1/3 cheaper and have them install it (note, you have to read up on the net about what ppl recommend to buy.)

Yeah, I'm in the same boat, just got a MB 1,1 (1.83 CoreDuo, 512MB ram) that I've upgraded the hdd from 60GB to 120GB, now looking at ram next. The 1st MB's can only go up to 2GB, so going to try 2x 1GB ddr2 667's sodimms I have already, if they don't work will buy some...

I've always been told that an Authorised tech needs to install ram, otherwise one risks warranty issues.

that was until some pointed out to me that Apple have printed instructions in the MB and MBP user manual on how to replace/upgrade ram.

Why would they do that if RAM was not a user upgradeable part?

PS. could someone with a unibody MB or MBP check if these instructions still appear in the user manual?

The generation before the current unibody's had user upgradable RAM, it did not void your warranty if you installed the ram urself, not too sure with the new unibody's either.

Hi all... Ram upgrade went without a hitch... Except - it's actually DDR2 533 Nanya ram, not 667 as the guy said I bought it from...

It'll just run a tad slower than with DDR2 667 ram? Shouldn't damage anything?

The ram I got out (2x256MB) was a Hynix stick and another Nanya stick...

Now just to find a 7200rpm 2.5" hdd for a good price! Have a 120 5400rpm in there now, so looking for at least double that...

Just some more feedback - 2GB of ram on a Macbook is great, so 4GB would be even better!

MS Word for Mac used to take like 3 or 4 bounces of the icon in the dock to open, now it opens almost instantly! More ram FTW!

Bought a Dell Mini9 yesterday - going to see if I can hack-a-Mac it with just the 8GB SSD!
