I spent all the time in the eurozone so can't really comment on the states personally, but I have 2 sets if really good SA friends who are on either coast of the states, and they both say meat is hellishly expensive.

Meat in the UK, France, Netherlands/Belgium was also WAY more expensive when at the level of a good PnP steak.

I went the whole hog and built a full size .here is a pic and my brisket.
I use home made charcoal and oak and hickory chips mixed.
