Hi

It might be too deep into the post already, but want to enquire if I can do the following:

I have 2x 1.4KVA inverters, stand alone units. What is the easiest way to have the 4 batteries run in parallel?
  • Can I without moving batteries plug 1 inverter into the other, so it is normal power drain and when those batteries are lowish, I just switch it off?
  • If not, can I connect 4 batteries on the same inverter, keeping the 24V Voltage, so just double the wattage.

I would really like to help but I am not honestly sure what you are saying on the first point.

On the second one, yes you can connect two sets of 24V in parallel on one inverter.

I meant by that to plug the 1 inverter into the other inverter as if it is a normal electronic equipment requiring power, so if the power goes out, the first inverter powers the 2nd and when the batteries are 50% ish, can I just switch off the first inverter, using the 2nd? The neccessary gear to run what I want is plugged into the 2nd inverter all the time in this scenario.

So just to clarify, can just double up on the inverters by installing 4 batteries in 1 inverter, just double on my Ah?

Yes, 2 parallel strings of 24V.

I would strongly advice against the first option, firstly I doubt powering one inverter with another is a good idea or if it is going to work, even if it does it will be just an inefficient process with no benefit.
 
Somewhere in this gigantic thread, someone posted graphs where it showed this... Think it may have been @wingnut771 ?
Not me, either @AlphaJohn or @Lupus, I'm leaning towards @AlphaJohn having the sonoff graph. I remember it showing the difference between 10A and 20A both taking similar time (about 6 hours after loadshitting) to charge as only the BULK phase uses max amps (10A or 20A), then ABSORPTION phase takes the most time with decreasing current.

I have read up until page 90 on this thread and I have unfortunately not yet seen a confirmed answer for the following issues that I have with my IVR 1200 MPPT 1000W Mecer inverter, which is connected to 2 x Probe 110Ah batteries in parallel... so I was hoping someone could maybe shed some light on these queries that I have.

Firstly, the fan on this unit stays on 24/7/365, and it is quite loud... and I was wondering if anyone with these specific models that have constant fans running, have had any issues with fans burning out because of the non stop constant use, or do they turn off or disconnect the inverter once the batteries are fully charged?

Secondly, because of the noise of this fan, I have moved the inverter into another room, and I have a extension cable going up the wall from the inverter in the other room, through the roof, and then back down the wall into the lounge, to run the TV, DSTV, Fibre, Cell Charger... nothing more.... is this a safe practice?

Thirdly, with the inverter charging the batteries when there is no load shedding, like now... do you guys disconnect the inverter once the batteries reach a fully charged status, and only re-connect the inverter when the batteries run down to a certain percentage or voltage, or do you leave your inverter permanently connected to your battery setup 24/7/365, and let it constantly trickle charge your batteries 24/7/365, because I thought that could damage my batteries a bit, but I am not 100% sure and they are currently permanently connected and powered on at the moment.

Fourthly, if there is no load shedding for a while, do you disconnect your inverter and let your batteries discharge to a certain level every few weeks or months and then recharge them back up, or do you just leave them connected and charging?

Lastly, when you have converted over to adding a solar kit option, as I would like to do, is there a preferred solar panel kit or brand available on the market that you would recommend?

Any feedback to these queries would really be appreciated
It is normal for this model, the fan never switches off apparently.

It's ok to run a long extension cable. I had a 30m extension running from my car at one time.

Any popular brand PV is fine, they're all the same IMHO. Mono > Poly.

Correct. Bulk on 20A is shorter than 10A but the absorption phase is about the same.

Hoping someone can help. Noticed my inverter LCD is blank and both yellow and red lights are lit up solid, not blinking. Pushing the grey power button does nothing. Unplugging it does nothing, the buttons stay lit up.

There was a moer of a storm here in Joburg so not sure if something got F'd. Is this a return to Mustek situation or can I do something to fix it? Thanks all.

Is it under warranty? If not disconnect everything and open it to see if there is something you can do to fix it.

Of course unplugging it will do nothing because it is still powered by the batteries, if you were hoping for a hard reset that could fix it you must disconnect all power to it.

Have you tried without batteries? Also the unit does have a fuse inside that might have gone?

Yeah I did the Eskom thing and "load shedded" myself during said storm. Cause I wasn't in the mood to pause my gaming session so unplugging TV and game console was not an option :D

Was a wise decision as lights that was on mains, did dim a couple of times also my florescent tube in the kitchen greeted.
 
So I bit the bullet and bought 3 pure sine wave inverters with 120ah batteries for 18k. 2 are 12v they are Ecco inverters and are half the size of the Mecer and are 1500w, the one running my son's TV, decoder and the alarm didn't even move during load shedding last night, the one powering the bedroom TV, plus Xbox One X which was being used by the wife managed 1 hour and 45 minutes before it hit 50% and boy does it let you know.
Soon as we took the load off the battery indicator went back over 50% making me think it's the One X :).
The 24v system is only coming today. But for the same price as Geewiz charges for the Mecer modified, this little pure sine wave is not bad. It's even got solar connectors on the back, the fan only kicks in while charging and every 5 minutes rather then continously on. I know I got lead acid batteries on it but right now stocks seem to be flying for Lithium and the LA will hold us for awhile, especially my sons room.
