Hi All. I have come to trust the guys on this site for honest opinions and the right place to go before buying any type of electronic device. I was grateful for the information about the horrors of the LG dvd recorder nice not to be alone....anyway.

I would just like to ask for opinions for anyone who owns or knows about the Mecer Xhibitor Media Center. And also if folks know of various alternatives or other ideas.

Thanks :D

whatever i say may come out a bit biased as I work for a uk distributor who also sells that system, but it is pretty damn good really.
the build quality is awesome, it doesnt feel like a pc or a pc case.
and running mce can be quite pleasurable. of course, you could also learn to hate it with a passion, but i am on my third year now and wouldnt go back to "normal" tv viewing......i would rather sit in the dark.

the only downsides is that the machine is built on a 915 motherboard, so no dual core support and no ViiV support. this isnt a big deal if you treat it as an appliance-type system.

Whoah, MECER, DIE!

Bushbaby14, rather build up your own MCE, will save you ALOT of money, and for using MECER products since the 80's (on some customers computers ofcourse), the warranty/reliability is a big "diehatekthx".

You can also check out the nice K.I.S.S Systems from Linksys/Cisco.

http://www.kiss-technology.com/

It would also make a big diffrence on what you actually want to do on it. Use it as a PC, or as a Media Player.

But like I say, get a cheap (upgradable) computer, with a nice case and a wireless keyboard & mouse with MS MCE or Which ever MC Linux distro and there you go.

Jeeva, shame on you for dissin' the exibitor. Like all products from mecer, the exibitor is just a rebrand of product. Now I'd like to say that if you take 25 products from mercer, you might find that only one product is great. That will be the exibitor for now.

The tv out displays a great picture on a normal tv as well. Well that is because it has been pre configured to show the the correct format (true pal i at 50hz).

Take a look at these:

Looks familliar hey?

And no, Werner lives in the UK, working for a company that distributes that same HTPC.

you can use this advice.

these particular machines are built by tatung for intel. it is their "ourroom" reference design. the "extra" get sold through people like mecer. it is their product as much as what i am the pope.

go have a look at the alienware dhs2...
http://www.alienware.com/product_de...ures.aspx?SysCode=PC-DHS2&SubCode=SKU-DEFAULT

then see this article

jeeva, what is your opinion on alienware...better than mecer? :)

psssffft...same stuff man.

I know it is a rebrand, just like those imported chineses scooters. It still carries the doomed voodoo powers from Mecer, for the ammount of swearing it caused in the last 20 years :p

Thanks everyone for your opinions and the links to explore. We were looking into it for use as media center entertainment etc. Played on one in Incredible connection and it just seemed cool.
Not much experience at building own computers but do know someone. Either way the price is the big issue. But I think that will come down after a while. When something bigger and better arives.
