I'm looking to purchase a Media Center Device that is compatible with DSTV and a HDMI capable 1080p HDTV. I'd prefer not to build one myself from a PC.

Any suggestions? I travel often and so am not limited to only devices available in SA.

There are no MCE that will capture the signal form the HDMI output on the HD DSTV decoders

If you want to use a dual view (or any non HD PVR) then it will work 100%

So which decoder do you want to use?

When you say "compatible with DSTV", you mean the ability to automatically change DSTV channels during your scheduled recordings?

Other than building one from a PC, I can only think of Tivo or something like the Archos.

I've used earlier versions of the Archos and they come with IR extender to control your DSTV channel changing. However, the one drawback about them and many hardware based Media Center Devices is the limited support of video codecs. The newer Archos have wifi, internet connectivity and ability to download TV programme guide!

You should check out something like this:

http://www.hdx1080.com/

Its the best value for money I could find.

I agree with Arch272 about the DSTV, those units are built so that the signal cant be recorded.

Cheers

Windows media center seems to be working pretty well for me at the moment. If you don't want to build a PC media center from scratch, there are always places that sell them already built up. :)
