Hi Guys

I've never been on a medical aid scheme, my new employer will be contributing towards one so I will be getting on soon.

Any idea about the waiting period since I've never been on one before?

I'm 25, fairly healthy and no pre-existing conditions.

I was thinking of the Discovery Keycare Plus ( I fall in the R7 500 - R10 000 group)

And the Sanlam comprehensive gap cover - Claims are assessed by Xelus

Any thoughts or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

yes with your salary get the saver plan, its like R1500 with your salary and if the employer contributes 50% you should be paying next to nothing for a good plan.

I'm on Coastal Core from Discovery - hospital plan only, so all GP, dentist, etc. visits I pay for but they pay for in hospital treatments.

For gap cover I used to be with Sirago, but apparently they started being difficult, so I switched to Stratum Benefits. Recently I had a colonoscopy and gastroscopy. The specialists bill was about 8k and the anaesthetist's was around 2.8k. Discovery paid about 3k and 1.6k respectively. Stratum paid the entire remainder.

I'm also on Discovery Coastal Core with Gap Cover from Stratum. Discovery seldom cover very well (though they did come through for me when my girl was born prem and spent 3 months in NICU), but I find that with Stratum, the two invariably cover everything hospital related.
