If this had happened any other place and not a SOE they would be fired on the spot.

Suspended......
Nope, suspension, disciplinary hearing and sanction if found guilty, that's how it works, it's understandable that you think people can be fired on the spot, I take it you have been out of the loop of formal employment for a very long time.

Public and private employers are governed by the same labour laws.

Can we rather suspend the executive that signed off on not having auto-purge systems on some of the most expensive coal generators ever purchased?

Does make sense. Hydrogen is a good cooling agent, Just do not mix with air/Oxygen...
Apparently... procedures were not followed. But hey I wasn't there to see the time saving, VERY expensive BOOM.

Imagine if Nuclear was left to these people. Biggest BOOM ever in SA.

Is that a euphemism for deviating from standard procedures? How are such people let loose anywhere near equipment...
I can picture this:

Maintenance get told they need to service this new generating unit. OK they say.
Oke in charge checks the procedure that needs to be followed.

Scratches his head. No. Why so complicated a procedure?

Let's do it my way and save time and we all go home early.

Certain something along those lines happened and BOOM.

There are six such units at Medupi, the one that blew has been in commercial operation since 2017, nothing new about it, this most probably has nothing to do with not knowing how to carry out the procedure.
