You can think of it this way, if we didn't have Unit 6 and Koeberg down it would have been much worse.

But one unit can only help so much. When is the next one due? Think we would need 3 or so to be syncing fully to be out of the loadshedding radar.

Yes, Koeberg 2 is going off for maintenance.

And yes, Medupi 6 is helping with the loadshedding. It has been online since March, gradually ramping up. All that's happened is that it is now 'commercial' which means Eskom must pay the contractor fully.

Eskom and govt has milked this same news repeatedly. The big news is why the second unit (unit 5) has taken so long to bring up.

Loadshedding should be OK as the country enjoys early spring weather. The first cold snap will see up back in the dark

I recently chatted to a gent who's company supplies Eskom with equipment. They owe him R800 000. He's actually shutting down for two weeks in September to try and save his company.
A friend of his in the Cape just declared bankruptcy and closed his factory because of non-payment by Eskom.
Same guy told me that engineers at Koeberg have been told they have 6 weeks to perform a scheduled maintenance that normally takes 3 months.

Yep. Everything is going swimmingly.

All resources were moved to focus on getting 6 online resulting in delays on all the other units

Because taking shortcuts on maintenance has worked out so well thus far...

IF this is true, but I seriously doubt it, it can still be done safely. Cutting maintenance in half does not mean it will not be done safely or correctly.

Instead of only working 9 - 5, shifts can be doubled and 2 teams can work 24/7 or even three teams.

Sunday Times reports this morning that Koeberg unit will still be shut down for 3 months.
