This is a UPS not an inverter then? I'd suggest getting an inverter with a hubble battery if you could get one.

Yep, a UPS ... , tho not sure exactly what the difference is between a UPS and an inverter. Both take DC and give out AC ...

Considering it's a UPS, the LA batteries would be "fine"

That is if they use it as such, with computers getting shutdown signal. Seen to many people using UPS's without loading the software and connecting the PC's causing the batteries to go below 50% during outages.

Essentially yes they are the same, but UPSes are designed for quickly switching over in the event of a power failure and only providing a short amount of power to switch to a generator or larger battery backup, this means they are equipped with as you've seen a lot of little batteries instead of fewer bigger batteries. They generally also have crap chargers so charge batters over a looooong period of time.

UPS is design for 5-20 min outage buying time for alternative power like Genny to kick in. Good UPS's normally clean power from mains as well.

Inverter is designed for long power outages ie: alternative power and normally switch power source so do not clean main input.

What happens here - gets switched of when the unit starts beeping

Careful. I almost went down this road. Most Lead replacements only support up to 4 in series. I'm in the same boat as you.

Now why would it make a difference, having more than 4 in series?

They say it is a drop on replacement for Lead Acid.

That's not my area of expertise, so I have no idea, but having the 3000W model I also have 6 batteries and pretty much every company I contacted from Hubble to FreeWon and googled various specs, pretty much said, max 4 batteries in series. :(

I ended up adding 6 more cheap LA batteries, making it 12 (6 x 2 - all of them same rating) and started saving up for a proper solar solution (Sunsynk inverter)

Only thing I can think of, and I may be off, is it has some thing to do with charging.

Eish!!!

Murphy is a bugger.

Also to charge them might take weeks, the ups charger is probably 2A, so that 100ah battery would take a loooong time to charge.

I think in the end, a proper solar solution is probably the long term way to go rather than messing with small inverters. That's my plan, at least.

Not my place, not my stuff ...

For my sins, I live in a sectional title complex, and due to space constraints, solar is not a viable solution, niether is a bore hole.

So get a proper inverter then, don't need the panels. When I lived in a complex my old Mecer did its job nicely.

Which inverters, should I look at?

Intitial plan at home is to keep a 32 inch TV, nVidia Shield Pro, and a B618 running for at least 4 hours, as well as a LED lamp as needed. Charge a few cellphones.

For how long?
Get this and when the battery dies replace it with a lithium
