[Merlin U740] Toast?

So, there I was, merrily flashing my Merlin U740 to the latest firmware (v27.2), when the power dipped. Near the end of the update. And since I was using my desktop, with no UPS, I now have a lovely red piece of trash in my hand. Or do I?

Are there any suggestions? I have tried removing the card, reinserting it and then flashing the firmware again. But the update says it can't reset the modem, and IMEI is needed for backup. Does this make sense to anybody?

Luckily I have an N80, which is now hooked up as a modem. I'm due an upgrade on my contract anyway, so will get another phone for voice calls in the mean time (since I want to use my 3G simcard in the N80, rather than pay extra on my normal, voice contract). But is this little power dip costing me a lot of money? I'm not sure yet, but will appreciate all advice.

You will have to take it into to a Vodacare|Vodashop or whatever and sweet-talk your way into getting it exchanged.

Is it still under guarantee? You might get away with it by taking it to Vodacare and telling them it's just dead.

Yep, that'll most likely work

When I bought my data card (prepaid) I got an Option Nozomi..
After about three weeks use it just died on me.. Note: It really just died on me - no flashing or weird playing around with it :p

The point though, is that I just took it to the Vodashop handed it in and said: "It's not working" .. they just took a look at my purchase slip, took the card disapeared for 30 seconds and came back with a new one (a Novatel U740) ... I am 99% sure that they never even tested the old one - they just took my word for it.. - mind you that's a good thing :D

AISH! Thank's for the replies people. I was hoping for some sort of hidden update that only a few people know of that can magically cure my card. A bit optimistic, eh?

Anyway, I shall nip over to Vodaworld tomorrow, and report back ASAP.
