Meta Platforms is cutting more than 11,000 jobs — Zuckerberg says he's sorry

Meta Platforms Inc. Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg said the company will cut more than 11,000 jobs in the first major round of layoffs in the social media giant’s history.

The reductions, equal to about 13% of the workforce, were disclosed Wednesday in a statement. The company will also extend its hiring freeze through the first quarter.

I can only assume this is the first of many of these for Faceboob/Meta... especially with such a fall in share price, revenue etc...

He hired 10k people for the meta vr stuff.

I want to know what on earth they’re doing if the end result is what we see in vr horizons.
I won't lie, there seems to be an extreme level of inefficiency in Facebooks staffing setup tbh.

VR Horizons looks like it was written over a weekend by 2 mates who were goofed as fsck.

Don't even think it has all to do with that. Probably not enough work for them and they were hiring faster than they could assign tasks.

Oh without a doubt that was a factor as well...

But also, 85000 people is an insane number for what they seemingly produce (in my really uninformed opinion).

It would be interesting to see a split of Infrastructure/Dev/Sales/Admin/Fluff staffing numbers.

Ive seen a few "Day in the Life of a Facebook/Twitter employee" youtube videos.Seems like they only do around 2hrs of "real" work.Rest of the day is spent is meetings , eating , gym etc.
