Quest Pro VR headset leaks after being forgotten in hotel room — Report

A video posted online claims to show Meta's upcoming new virtual reality (VR) headset — the Quest Pro — which was supposedly found left behind in a hotel room by one Ramiro Cardenas.

The 1-minute clip, posted to Meta's own social media platform Facebook, shows what appears to be several boxes of engineering samples of the new headset and various marketing materials.

Definitely *not* a marketing ploy.
How the F is this a marketing ploy? Why bother letting developers sign nda ,spend millions on advertising and producing a event to launch a new product line. For it to be release to the world as a shitty video at a some backroom of a hotel LMAO.

To help create 'hype'. Have you not heard there is no such thing as bad publicity.

This is now in the news and on a lot of tech sites - including MyBB, so it might be a calculated move.
Not enough time to do anything with it or test it, but enough time to make headlines and create awareness of the upcoming launch without giving too much away.

Bro, why do developers and enterprise need "hype" like this on a $800+ device targeted towards them?

This is not targeted towards general consumers(aka quest3). If they wanted hype they would handed out early release units to reviewers(which is in the works currently).

Obviously I would not know the motivations of others as it wasn't me who left the device there.

Who knows. But think of it this way. If you were a responsible tech developer or journalist who was given access to something highly confidential and also had to sign tons of NDA's etc.... why would you be so irresponsible to leave that piece of tech behind in a hotel room? To me that is not the actions of someone who would have access to those types of devices. You would make SURE you don't leave that behind anywhere, it is probably the reason you went to that city/town in the first place.

As to hype, and this is just speculation, but again, if the tech guys chat about it, then it will flow downward into discussions and eventual customers would consequently hear about it.

This could have been a clever ploy to raise awareness but not give anything away by the fact that it was left just long enough and then retrieved.

But I am not married to that idea, it is just one of many possibilities, but cannot be ruled out completely however. It is not completely bonkers. Even Elon throws something tantalizing out from time to time to create a buzz. ;-)

Yea I agree with you on that one.

Last hotel I went to would not let me leave till they gave me the 1Euro and 1 sock I left under the bed (doing their quick inspection before I leave the hotel).

I was booking out and told to wait so they could hand these to me

Left in a hotel room
The person discovering it knew what it was and how important it was
How
They probably bothered to read...
The packaging also had the Meta Quest Pro label and a notice stating, “Not for resale — engineering sample”.

Top secret products being left in hotel rooms is the norm. Been done for more than 10 years now.
Definitely marketing. Give an unofficial demo to get some talk.

Seeing as its from Facebook, do you need to watch an ad for the flat earthers or anti vaxers every time you click a button on a controller?
