MetroWatt and Huawei launch solar power rentals in South Africa - R2,800 or R3,800 per month

No thanks, those prices are more than the average electricity bill for not much in terms of specs.

Rather finance it then at least it's yours and paid off at the end of the term...

This seems to be the new goldmine. Even MFC is now doing solar financing.

Why use optimisers? Exspensive exstra, add one more panel to displace any loss

Interestingly I stumbled across this from Nedbank - a tailor made advance specifically aimed at solar power. I would rather opt for something like that instead.

Based on my own experience with a 5kW inverter and battery, and 4.4kW panels, the saving would be half of the R2800 cost (or maybe less)
That's a big brush you're using there.

At my house we used to use less than 200kWh per month (family of 4). However, when I moved in I replaced all my old appliances with at least A++ equivalents so there was a bit of a capital outlay. Gas for the hob and a solar geyser completed the setup.

In my case 4 x 400w panels and two to three hours of sunshine would have gotten me enough power for a day. The heaviest component was my 65" TV at 160 watts.

I'd love to view & peruse the contactual terms & conditions of this lease-option - please!

If your max energy cost is R500 per month (200kWh x R2.50) then you certainly would not benefit from the proposed rental agreement, which is the same conclusion I reached, and a few others.
