The end of Windows 10

Microsoft will not release any new updates for Windows 10, the company said in a blog post.

The current version of Windows 10, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10. All editions of the operating system (OS) will still be supported with monthly security updates until Microsoft ends its support for the operating system on 14 October 2025.

Most PCs of the last decade has a TPM but it's disabled in the BIOS and Win11 even works with it disabled. Main issue is M$ that's haphazardly decided which processors can be used.

Catch me dead on Windows 11 till they reintroduce basic features the OS had all it's life, it's a joke.

All the old PC's that will become ewaste. Classic M$ cockup.
Yep, its already showing up in the refurbished market. anything not compatible with windows 11, is getting very cheap now.

The only valid reason for removing backwards compatibility, is if Microsoft is planning a ground-up rewrite of Windows, so its not such a bloated mess.

But I seriously doubt it. Its most likely just a cash grab from Microsoft by creating artificial demand for new hardware, so they earn new income from OEM licenses

Windows 11 to Windows 10 is what Windows 8 was to Windows 7.

Compared to Windows 10 at a similar points in it's product life cycle Windows 11 had very few feature updates, makes me think MS is saving them for Windows 12.

It's weird, today I installed freshly installed windows 11 on two i7-7th gen PC's. It didn't complain about anything which was strange because I knew the minimum was 8th Gen intel.

Which 7th gen i7s are those?

I a cidentakly hit the upgrade to win 11 button. Happy I did, no more nag screens.

I upgraded quite a few laptops from 7 or 8 to 10. In some cases I even upgraded them to SSDs.

Either Ms will drop the tpm requirement or they will continue bringing out security updates for the next decade.

If they don't, PC buyers and developers will move to competing OSs.
