Microsoft assisted NSA, FBI access private info: Guardian report

This cannot be good for US corporations depending on international sales. These corporations must be hating Snowden more than the US government. They will pay to nail him. They have been exposed and it will cost them. Many will now think thrice before committing to products made by US corporations found to be in bed with the US government. Per the first PRISM leaks Microsoft was the first to sign on. From the latest leaks it sounds like they were even eager to sign on. Cute patriots that place the interests of the US government ahead of the interests of their clients. And then they have the arrogance to give us the "your privacy is our priority" rubbish.

Yep, US based cloud services are going to be a hard sell if a customer is concerned about data security

And they want to put a camera on the new xbox that must always be attached and on, then "promise" to never use it to gather info...

This is the sad and very frustrating reality ... unfortunately ...

What I dont get from you guys is did you not suspect or know this before?
How is this even news?
Did you really think this was not happening?
Google has been doing this forever and yet that's okay?

Marine1 : You're right ... But these days Microsoft is a popular target for abuse whereas Google is still seen as hip and trendy. But Google monitors everything and makes no bones about it. If ever we had a "Big Brother" watching everything we do, it's Google.

marine1, what I don't get about your position is how you say "they all do it" and then go on as if there is noting that can and should be done to solve the problem. It is wrong and it must be stopped. I don't care how many of them have been doing it for how long and is getting away with it. Where it is exposed it must be stopped. These companies must feel the pain. We can let them feel the pain. Or we can be sheople and enjoy our double Whoppers and football and make as if this doesn't matter and cannot be countered.

How about: "Let the criminals run riot. They have been doing so for ages. It's not news. How long before 7e Laan starts Sarie?"

Oh the irony of "Gmail man" ad campaign some time back...

Spying 3-6-5

Pathetic disgusting Microsoft ... making jokes of others that are better at privacy than them.

I would not say better at privacy, as I knew some computer was scanning my mail in Gmail, and I am sure Google has some sort of agreement with the NSA as well, the Patriot act demands it. What is sad is that they acted as if they are better than the rest at privacy and in fact used it to better themselves.

Simply put I knew from day one Google is reading my mail, no secret about it so if I want to "hide" something I would not use Gmail at all.

Dude I know in the States suggested that now is the perfect time to be in Cloud services based in Europe: the privacy laws make it a very easy seell

Yeah, but I like the whole innocent until proven guilty thing. Ofc I have stated that I think MS and all the others are equally guilty. I have even sympathised although I am by no means a fan of such practices.
