Microsoft discussed sale of Bing to Apple

Microsoft Corp. discussed selling its Bing search engine to Apple Inc. around 2020, a deal that would have replaced Google as the default option on the iPhone maker’s devices, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

Executives from Microsoft met with Apple’s services chief, Eddy Cue, who brokered the current search engine relationship with Alphabet Inc.’s Google, to discuss the possibility of acquiring Bing, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the situation was confidential.

Article is deeply unclear.

It could be read as Microsoft literally selling the Bing division of the company or Apple, or it can be read as Microsoft trying to reach an agreement with Apple to use Bing as the default.

You don’t sell an agreement, but you knew that when you wrote the clickbait headline and subsequent article.

Lol, blog writers love this because they can make up a bunch of wishy washy facts and nothing to back it up.

So what's the true story behind the deal? Why would Microsoft sell something that is a key feature in their browser and system?

This story makes no sense.

Google search has over 90% marketshare. Bing will never be able to compete.

And when internet explorer had over 90% market share and Google chrome was never going to or able to compete ?

A bit close minded I think the statement is…..

With BingAI (chatgpt4 ), I only use Bing now for all my work and personal queries.

Google searches are mainly pointless for me for the last few months.

Even I am surprised by how brilliant BingAI

BingAI - gives the answers I need along with the reference without forcing me to wade through countless clicks. In my work life, it has allowed me to get through work issues especially coding (which is not my forte) fast .

Other more reputable news sites are correct when they say, Googles dominance on search is now at risk.

So I guess we should be lucky that this never happened cos Siri sucks . I also hope Microsoft one day ressurects the Cortana name because BingAI should be rebranded to Cortana (ok showing my age)
