kas i get it but your acting like this microsoft thing can crack the highest security world wide which it cannot

all it can do is help ppl catch criminals via windows

selebi can go through my computer, i have no problems with that

i dont have anything to hide

you okes are trying to make this bigger than it really is

i think we just end it here because when ppl dont agree with you wizard you turn nasty

you have your opinion and i have mine, if mine differs from yours get over it, your not some God who knows everything in life

kas the thing is there is nothing to explain, you have explained and i have explained that this microsoft thing cannot crack 3rd party apps in windows, so why can you 2 not grasp that it cannot crack 3rd party apps

anything high tech cannot be affected by this

as for ppl going through my computer, do they not need to attach a device to it first?

I turn nasty? cute. Dont agree? Dude, you couldnt even understand my point, every time you debated it, you debated it from the a55 end. A good example of this would be when I mention 3 countries with human rights abuses, Russia, China and Zimbabwe... and your comeback is "Do you know anyone in zim with a pc". Paaaaaaaaaaaaleeeeeeeeeeeze.

You completely ignore the the big picture behind what I am trying to say, and come back with a comment like that, and you expect me to take you seriously? Nooit.

yea all im saying is what can these countries do with information about their ppl?

i mean the way you guys are going on about this, they can track your every move, see who you voted for blah blah

what can those 3 countries do with information obtained by a desktop user who plays games and surfs the internet?

zimbabwe is not worried about monitoring its ppl, it does not need to monitor them as most of them are so poor and dont have a clue about anything IT related

still cannot get my head around what this could do to the average joe who does not use a 3rd party app for security

FOR THE LAST DAMN TIME!

I am NOT saying that it will be used to crack HIGH SECURITY apps, I am saying that if this gets into the wrong hands, all it will take is a bit of modification to get it to work via network, and then it effectively becomes a quick and easy way for anyone who has it to BREAK INTO YOUR WINDOWS PC. Do you get this? Does this penetrate? Have you considered what you keep on your PC? Does your browser store your passwords, do you have any personal information on it, do you use it for online banking? Because if you do, then chances are you are at risk.

I'm not saying this is all going to happen, but Microsoft are certainly increasing the risk by releasing something like this.

Kill them.. send them to labour camps, torture them... theres a pretty big list.

See my previous answer... if you would like REAL LIFE examples of this happening already... Ill supply them.

Take for instance China... or Burma... remember the internet crackdowns they had there? Do you even know what happens to those people? Say I am in China... and I come across something about democracy that their firewalls have not filtered out. I read it... and think, "wow, democracy is a good idea!"... and then the chinese police come to my house with the wundabaa MS crack tool... open it up, and are able to see that I went to a website that dealt with democracy.. and I saved it.

Thats instant political labour camp stuff right there.

Now say I am that journalist in Russia (the woman that was killed).. and I am trying to uncover Putins extensive corruption. Putin sends his FSB in, they search through the documents I was writing about him for an international newspaper... thats a death sentence right there.

Say I am a member of the MDC, and I help organise the local MDC community against Mugabes ZANU-PF... and the Zim police come to my place and use the tool to open up my documents. Thats me, and everyone else that I may have being communicating with that will either get tortured or killed.

This stuff does and will happen.

look you have 2 problems

no.1 is cyber crime is on the increase and police and investigators need all the help they can get

so you have 2 sides of the coin on this one

criminals are at risk of being exposed alot easier now
as you explained it wizard, then those ppl should be careful and use a good way of communicating because computers can be hacked without this device as well

look at the end of the day this is a good thing to stop kiddie porn etc and help fight criminals

everyone else just needs to take steps and ensure if they doing something that may get them tortured they dont do it over email or whateva

so i hear what you guys are saying but i still think this is a very good thing

you would also need the computer plus the device, so as far as i can tell its not as easy as seems to hack someone's pc as you would need both pc and device?

can this device search everybody's computer in those 3 countries or do they need to plug it into the pc?

Dude... you lost the plot. The chinese, russian and Zim examples dont require a corrupt cop. They just require a cop. Which is why I used them.

Agreed... I have no problem with this.. but if you are a cybercriminal, do you really think they will use weak systems like MS? Think about this carefully...

So .. someone researching democracy is a criminal in your eyes? Sis.

look at the end of the day this is a good thing to stop kiddie porn etc and help fight criminals

So.. how about we just arrest everyone so that way we make sure we get all the criminals?

everyone else just needs to take steps and ensure if they doing something they may get them tortured they dont do it over email or whateva

That advice would apply to the pedo bears as well. Do you honestly think they will have that siff data on their systems NOT under super encryption?

so i hear what you guys are saying but i still think this is a very good thing

Do you think the Patriot Act is a good idea?

Then just don't let those countries have access to this technology.

EDIT: Even if they get he technology through illicit means it's a bit rich telling a mother of a raped 5 year old " Yeah sorry but we could have stopped this crime but we were worried about the actions of Russian cop if he got his hands on the technology we would have used to catch the criminal."

Yeah... sure... would love it. How? I mean.. they couldnt keep nuke tech outta those countries hands, how do you propose they stop something as arb as this? Chances are.. if its out there... those governments have it already,

Unlike the whole family who gets sent to a political prisoner camps and tortured. Common alan. Think here.

Pedo bears will likely use intense encryption to hide their crimes (something this little key is not going to change ONE BIT).. most criminals will. Its the arb user in a dodgy country who browses the wrong site who is more likely to get into trouble with that kinda technology.

We can also compare numbers.... there are a billion chinese. I doubt there are a billion pedo bears or 1 in 6 people would be a pedo. So already the victim stack for potential political "criminals" (from just one country) is higher than the combined total of the worlds criminals combined.

Well the bottom line is if you don't allow the police powers to combat crime because you fear an abuse of power then don't complain when the criminals run amuck.

I'm personally not too worried about this, considering the amount of ways that you can bypass Windows' protection in any case :D

I suppose you might be thinking.... "oh.. this is not so bad"... but what if the police are Zimbabwe police... Chinese police... Russian police.. ?

Another reason I prefer a clean system.

Those police agencies can get the passwords by smashing them out of the owners of the computer hardware. :)

All this dongle will do is recover the Windows logon password and maybe the bitlocker password in Vista. If you use a 3rd party app like Winzip and its 256bit AES, PGP or TrueCrypt those apps still work.
