Comparing W8.1 to Win 10, win 10 is much of an improvement. Not sure why people hate W10, I can understand hating W8.1

Yet Win 7 is still my personal Fav.

I don't like how MS is pushing it so hard. I don't want it even if its free.

Win 7 my fav too, Win8 is crap. Win8.1 is passable and Win10 still unpolished, like Vista was, before 7 came.

I really don't understand why people keep saying W10 is crap while it actually the best windows to date.

I was using 10, then went back to 7, and disabled the update notification

Why? It's basically identical, but with all the nice little improvements MS has added to Windows over the years. Anything you don't like you can just modify. Not to mention DX12 is exclusive to Windows 10. The only thing I missed was the Windows 7 start menu, but I installed Start10 on day one and brought it back.

Note that worked with that Windows 10 icon on the notification area. Not sure if this new one is the same KB. But I haven't seen this new one yet.

new one needs to be taken out of the registry, and a few other bits too.

Oh, and those unfortunate souls that DLed 10, and then went back to 7/8/8.1
For some this new thing causes an auto DL again
(so far I've seen 3 in the last week)
It's not fun...

If you go back to Vista now with up to date drivers, modern hardware and such, it works fine, 7 was polished Vista, same with Win8 to Win8.1. I feel that Windows 10 as it is, is still unpolished, I'll give it more time to become polished.

I have reverted back from 10 to 7 for quite a few clients.
All of them took under minutes, some instances pastel had to be reinstalled.
Otherwise everything else, Outlook mail accounts etc remain un affected.

If you have automatic updates setup to install automatically.
Very good chance your PC will restart and do the update itself.

Tip:
Turn updates to manual.
Disable and hide windows update KB3035583 (Windows 10 Upgrade).
Then you good to go.

That is only the notification, not the upgrade file.

As with the OP having an auto install, I've seen it on 1 laptop.
revert back to 7(client has a few progs that don't work in 10)
next day he goes on net.
his data (prepaid fortunately) goes for a fast walk
do the usual to prevent 10
next day same problem

then searching the deep underbelly of the www, I found something.

It involves editing the registry. and syswow files....

there are 2 files the GWX you know and GWXtrigger

The problem I experienced was after upgrading from 8.0 to 10 was that I got an continuous reboot loop because Windows 10 didn't have the right drivers for my ancient AMD Athlon X64 4800+ Dual Core CPU. So currently I am doing everything my power to stop it.

Well I have it installed on my iMac (dual boot) and on my Asus gaming laptop both are working just fine.. W10 have been publicly available for a while now and few tweaks have been done since then to make it an effective easy to use OS.

Do these programs not work in compatible mode?

Some custom programs could have not been updated for years, and don't specify which level of support they have for various OSes. If an application doesn't have an app manifest that states support for Windows 10, it'll think it's running on Windows 95 and will probably crash and not run properly. I've only heard of people with this problem, but it's an actual concern.

Might as well go with it since they're backporting all the spyware to 7 & 8 anyway.

Ja. In my case, I am now very happy with the 1511 build of WIN 10.

My daughter has left her Pc with me and I am doing the upgrade for her. Win XP to Win10. The PC came out with Win 7, converted to XP because here company required it to be so, and now they have moved on to WIN 10.

Interesting exercise. I will be using a USB media stick to do the upgrade, and will simply enter the WIN 7 product key - it is supposed to work.

I was planning to first re-install WIN 7 and then do the upgrade

MS Edge 13 is fast growing on me. Already prefer it to Chrome.

Separate settings and control panel for one... MS must make up their minds and have it all in one place please (and NO, search isn't one place :p).
