Even with that it's not very popular, about the same number of XP installations:

Oh yeah totally. One's less than a year old and the other one??
Windows 7 is 6 years old though.:erm: are you ignoring the Win 7 slice?

They try to dominate mobile market. Strategy is not difficult to guess. Once the user learn tablet interface, it will more likely buy a new tablet/phone running the same interface and apps. Problems are two:So offering it for free was not enough incentive... now they forcing it so hard... what's the catch? There must be a catch, if there wasn't MS would just be chill...
Well you know what? I did just that. I sat down and sorted it out myself. I installed Linux. There you go, frikkin' sorted, Microsoft.
Two pc's in my house, both running Linux Mint. Two media centres - both running Openelec.
Back on topic:
I had a call just an hour ago from an 88-year-old client. Her 6-month-old Windows 8.1 laptop had been force fed Windows 10 overnight and she was mightily annoyed.
She's quite tech-savvy despite her years and the sort of lovely old lady you'd be happy to call your Gran.
So she says to me, and I kid you not:
"Can you come and see me tomorrow to talk about putting Ubuntu on my laptop please?"
I'm still reeling and smiling at the same time.
:erm: are you ignoring the Win 7 slice?
It's not free.
It's not free.
XP isn't supported anymore. Windows 7 is and still ages older than Windows 10. Most people are obviously on seven. IIRC I read an article that said Windows 10 has a faster adoption rate than any other OS before it.
Business Banking Clients get the new Dongle for free!Net result, after the upgrade, Pastel was broken (in the middle of finalising the fin year) and she couldn't access online banking since the Nedbank dongle she uses is not compatible with Win 10 (you have to order an updated dongle at a cost of R300 and much paperwork). No payments could be made.
Use GWX Control Panel to completely remove and block the Win 10 update...Go to hell Microsoft.
Business Banking Clients get the new Dongle for free!![]()
Really? We had to pay when we upgraded our other PC's to 10. I think you only get the first one free and additional dongles needing upgrades are charged??
Yeah - we upgraded all our Win 10 users to those, but they stuck a ~R300 charge on our account for each one. At least those dongles aren't quite the end user setup nightmare that the old ones were (which actually required you to manually enter addresses into your browser trusted sites, and change browser script security settings), LOL.
I'm absolutely incensed.
I quite like Windows 10, but this is beyond the pale.
.......... but to add insult to injury the first thing that popped up on the restored Windows system was a Win 10 upgrade dialogue with a countdown timer that says "Your Windows update will start in 59:00" and only one big button that says Restart and Upgrade now. There was a smaller link below which said "I need more time" but if you click that it only gives you the option to schedule the install for tonight. Savvy users would find the menu bar and work out through the menus that you can cancel the schedule but it's not at all obvious.
Where the very ×××× does MS get off with this high handed bullying behaviour? There are valid business reasons why people don't need to be forced to upgrade like this. And the work day lost to this? Who pays for this? Not to mention the cost of updating 3rd party software/dongles that was working just fine.
Go to hell Microsoft.
