Microsoft to cut manufacturer price for Windows by 70 percent: Bloomberg

Give it to me and I still won't use it. Thank you Microsoft for finally pushing me over to Linux once and for all.

Microsoft should make a version of windows 8 where like iOS you can only download apps from the app store and make it free, could be a great way to target all those people who are currently using pirated windows

Unfortunately the apps I use are only available on Windows and Mac OS.

Thankfully not the case for me. I only have a single spreadsheet that I have to send to my accountant once a year, and that requires excel. So I installed wine and office 2010 on my Linux Mint and it works a peach. Using Libre Office for everything else and loving it.

I tried to like win 8, but just couldn't form a relationship with it that was anything better than love / hate. The hate won. If that is Microsofts future, then I'm done with it forever now.

Each time I try and do something in Linux that I used to do in Windows (convert video or audio, or a wake-on-LAN app, or folder / file comparing) I find a linux app which works better and impresses me.

Using Mint on my main pc, and Mint on my lappy. Android on phone and tablet. Openelec / XBMC on my 3 media centres. MS-free. Bliss.

Time to upgrade your accountant? Does Save As from Libre not give you good enough results?

But, tbh, MS Office is the leading office package. LibreO is probably 95% there and should be more than adequate for 99% of users. It would need a big backer to leap frog MSO. It seems like the big money (Google) is investing in SaaS and that the MSO vs Open Source battle will become a non-issue, similar to the Windows vs Linux on the desktop. Soon there will not be a desktop at all.

It's a complex, tightly formatted multi - sheet workbook that he designed. He likes it in Excel.

I used Windows 8 / 8.1...it was okay...I went back to Windows 7 and loved it even more!!

Will wait and see what the next Windows (Windows 9) will offer...but I am not expecting much :(
