I once fetched a Chinese person from the airport and we were talking about poorness. He said China has really bad poverty so I showed him SA`s poverty and he was shocked and said there are nothing like this in China. SA`s poor are the poorest of the poor in the world, and the middleclass is poorer that the poor of some countries. SA is now quickly becoming a true communist country, with a huge poor class, no middle class, and a super rich cadre elite class. This is what the people of SA want, let them have it.

China has done well in lifting millions (close to a billion) of their people out of poverty. And people say communism doesn’t work.

China has poor; the rural old are basically living in houses in the countryside, while families work in the cities.
Cooking on coal, and living off stuff they grow. I should post some pics sometime. Similar to here - kids at grand parents, and wife/hubby in city, they come home to visit once a year if lucky.

Here the issue is children, in China they aren't pumping out 8 kids with no daddy, its 1 or 2 kids, maybe 3 if they really have money.

I think it is sad that you are considered a high-income earner if you are making more than R30K a month. I would say high income earners are people earning more than R100K each month. I can agree that things have gotten a lot more expensive. I actually wonder now what the price difference is between eating out each day, and cooking at home (I have a feeling this price difference is slim, given the sharp rise in grocery pricing).

... two-thirds of the average middle-class salary goes to servicing debt.

Sad, sad, sad. Blame it on the gucci bags, the BMW, the R12K apartment you are renting, and the 3 kids you decided you were going to have last year.

You do know the average income of middle class I assume right?

I would harbor a guess that most on here fall in the middle class income bracket.
I don't think so, looking at the numbers in the article, I think we'd all be upper income brackets.

Middle class would essentially be black twitter.

If you really want to see what poor looks like you should go to the Northern parts of India. They make our poor look positively rich.

Apparently the middle class here is what I would consider poor, did you see the definitions?

8K to 30K is a huge range

Someone earning 30K is taking home almost 25K after tax. That's not poor unless you're in Capetown

Yeah, whomever calculated the distribution on this never finished high-school maths.

But then again, why would you want to make people more depressed.

It's all fair and well placing people in a "class" bracket. But it's empty if you don't contrast it against purchase power.

Simply put, which class is the first class that can sustain themselves to a minimum agreed upon living standard.

And you know who controls the standard of living in ZA? The guys that make the rules and laws, and dictate taxes.

Communists are bagging wealth through market dynamics, they will eventually revert to old ways once they are ready. Comintern very much active and largely concealed.

They are? Then I will have to become a communist to also bag the wealth. Maybe you are referring to the commie elites only?
