LMAO what will people moan about next?
Switch your phone off!

That is not always so easy. Some have to keep it on all the time as they have loved ones that could have emergencies or work that has them on standby. Your situation that allows you to turn off your phone is nowhere near the template for the rest of the country.

Android phones have a feature called DND.

It's quite common in many countries no matter what time of day or night it might be. In the Philippines, the warning goes out to warm of intense rain heading your way and to seek shelter.

What a time to be sensitive. How loud is your cell that it's that big a problem?

There's a subtle difference in my books between a tornado warning and a reminder to wash your hands...

I'm sure it's not just Android ;)

Why is it the fault of the recipient of the spam? Stop sending it or at least give people the ability to opt out of receiving this junk.

Agreed! And I wasn't faulting the recipient. But people complain about the weirdest things sometimes.
I don't think you can block these messages. I need to try, but if they're anything like the Sotho messages from the government (I am English and white and live in a city where Xhosa is spoken!), then they cannot be blocked unfortunately! Which sucks. I hate spam.
But I never received one of these messages last night.

This is no joke. Guinness on tap has not been available since the start of the lockdown. It is slowly appearing at various venues as SAB begins its roll out of domestic production. All my friends know that if the tap is flowing, call me any time. Just this last weekend, I finally stumbled onto a running tap. I may have teared up a little.

Can Discovery also add a PSA to the SMS?

"If you own an iphone, throw it in the toilet!"

And that template again does not fit everyone. In my situation, the notifications we receive can come from ANY number. I would have to whitelist my entire staff compliment (>1000) and even that won't do it. I also have incoming alerts from those longer numbers that part of these SMS delivery systems. I simply cannot block all and whitelist some. And I am not the only person in such a situation.

Thus far, TRueCaller has done a better job at screening than this feature.

For those of you who don't need your phone on at night, who cares? That's your situation. I have multiple properties and interests abroad and I need my phone to be active. I too received this BS SMS from them, it woke me up, and it added a few 'FU' points to their sh!tlist, which will be factored in next time I choose a medical aid.
There is nothing altruistic or noble about them sending SMS. They are not doing this to save the World. They are a business, who's bottom line dictates that they pay out less than they receive. Thus, it's in their interest directly that people do not get covid - therefore, this is a business/marketing SMS IMO.
