like someone pointed out earlier, the working hours or the nature of work are not mentioned. So we dont know exactly what "a months work" is.
But clearly we think differently, for me some job is better than no job. even if it means working for less money than market standards or minimum wages in this case.
OP did mention it in a later post. Min wage is over 4K on a 5 day week working 9 hours. Clearly you do think differently. While to the person earning some money is better than no money, the person providing the job should not be disrespecting the person working by expecting them to live on slave wages. 9B62892E-50D7-4393-8C5F-875413B19232.jpeg

I inherently agree with you that some job is better than no job... but minimum wage (as far as I know) is law, therefore the person offering the job is breaking the law by offering below minimum wage.

Anything is better than nothing. What skills does she have that worth more than R2400 and if you deprive her of this opportunity will you continue to support her and compensate her for the loss of income?

This nanny state minimum wage nonsense is the reason we have the unemployment that we do.
and exactly why I dont have a domestic in my house.
I can afford for pay 600 a week for a domestic, not 900. And I rather not have a domestic at all than pay more than R600. There goes one job opportunity. Just an example and I am sure there are many other people and businesses who think the same.

Law made by the same people who cannot solve the unemployment issues in SA or create more jobs.
And yes this guy sounds like a class one dick.

Depends if the lunch hour is paid or unpaid. Unpaid means it's 8 hours per day which is about R3500 / month.

OP, is the position being filled, essential for the business? Perhaps he is doing his kid a favor. Not condoning paying under minimum wage but if the scenario is "I don't need someone but if you really need work I can help out" then I see no problem with it because chances are she will be sitting on her hands most the time.

Does everyone being employed have a right to minimum wage?

Why I'm asking. Our daughter of 19 years is being asked to work in her biological father's plumbing shop.
Work experience is a good thing. However he's offering her something like R2400 for a months work, which in my opinion is just taking advantage right?
Unfortunately yes
