Goodbye analogue TV — Hello 4G and 5G

The Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) has proposed 31 March 2023 as the switch-off date for analogue broadcast signals in South Africa.

During a media briefing on the progress of the broadcast digital migration programme, Minister Khumbudzo Ntshavheni said it would take just over three months to complete the remaining set-top box (STB) installations.

Suuuuuuure you are! Nice and easy to say stuff, scummy media loves it. Deeds not words

E-tv appealed that ruling in the Constitutional Court and won.

What's happened today is the minister ticking the boxes the ConCourt said she needed to tick before proclaiming the next switch-off date.
Well Snakes on a Plane./Anaconda, are sort of national treasures.. Well done Etv, for protecting your self interests our heritage...

Can’t we just do DVB-T2 already and call it a day with the DSTV dishes. Why does DSTV have great coverage outside of SA with their DSTV Go offering (DVB-T2) but there is practically nothing here. It’s not because you can’t fit all the channels on the spectrum…

This is it guys, for real this time

So I'm still unclear on this, IF they change to digital, and my TV can't pick up digital channels, does this mean I don't have to pay my license any more?

You won't be able to get a signal either way. Fokkal electricity!

Why turn it off completely at a set date? If the network quality is deteriorating, it obviously overloaded. Why not phase it in, like have a Stage 1 signal shedding where they turn it off for 2hours a day at a set schedule? That would improve the viewing experience for all. If they lose some more signal over time, it can easily be adjusted to Stage 2 signal shedding.
