Minister extended Post Office's small parcel monopoly - but it hasn't met delivery targets in over a decade

MyBroadband asked Takealot, Amazon, and Bob Shop for their views on the announcement, but they hadn’t responded by publication.

JD Group, which owns Incredible, Everyshop, and Hi-Fi Corporation, declined to comment.
They are never going on record that they are ignoring Gungu's decree.

Well what do you expect from 30%ers? So let me get this straight, they don't enforce the delivery mandate but want to enforce the restriction? No court would entertain one without the other.

Pretty simple solution. All orders under 1kg now come a complimentary brick.
You want more shacks err homes built?

I saw the postman last week at my house in what seemed like months, delivered new medical aid cards with a letter dated March 2023. Apparently successful % delivery has no time frame so as long as it gets to the person it doesn't matter if it takes 9 wasted years
It does which is why they haven't been able to meet it in well over a decade. Too bad there isn't a separate metric for delivery vs non-delivery.

I actually had post dropped off 3 weeks ago, it was from 2022 and it was just some stickers. But it was like damn I forgot about these.
Makes one wonder where they store all this stuff. The space must rival Amazon US and cost a fortune.

Since I'm still waiting for a packages from Florida, USA since February 2019—a package that made it all the way to JHB in 4 days, mind you—I'm voting "yeah, no..."
Same here, a tiny parcel I ordered in January arrived in South Africa 2 weeks later. Now June and still nothing.
Pathetic, Malema should go visit all @Sapo branches with his thugs

So what does this mean? If I order from Takealot/Bobshop, etc. and it weighs under 1kg, then only the P.O. is allowed to deliver it instead of a courier?

Suppliers are merely going to use packaging that just exceeds the physical size mandate.
Problemo solved.
Why do you think (for small items) you've been getting all your teeny TakeALot orders in such large boxes compared to the actual item size?

The latter is of particular concern, considering Gungubele’s comment that Sapo is mandated to provide reserved postal services to every South African citizen.
I don't see what the problem is here.
Where I live the P.O. has always been fast, safe and efficient.

I live in LaLaLand.... for all those that were wondering.

So what does this mean? If I order from Takealot/Bobshop, etc. and it weighs under 1kg, then only the P.O. is allowed to deliver it instead of a courier?
Why does everyone focus on the weight?

Big problem with Post Office online delivery monopoly in South Africa

South Africa's communications minister, Mondli Gungubele, recently extended the Post Office's monopoly over small parcel deliveries, and online retailers have been quiet about how they plan to address the extension.

MyBroadband asked Takealot, Amazon, and Bob Shop for their views on the announcement, but they hadn't responded by publication.
Im waiting for a package from the USA for 4 years now, so f off SAPO
