Minister Kodwa calls on SABC to resolve Springbok World Cup rights standoff with SuperSport

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Zizi Kodwa has urged the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to reach an agreement with SuperSport to secure sub-licensing of broadcast rights to the highly anticipated 2023 Rugby World Cup.

“I am concerned at how millions of South Africans may be unable to watch the Rugby World Cup should the SABC not be able to broadcast matches in the tournament,” the Minister said on Monday.

I am impressed that he did not beat about the bush and directed his statement directly at the guilty party, unlike those who are blaming MultiChoice.

After all the money that the SABC wasted on the SWC in Japan in 2019, I am not surprised that Supersport is playing hardball.

Even though I hate DSTV, and cancelled my subscription years ago, they definitely have a point wrt the SABC.

I will just watch the odd game in a sports bar.
