Minister of Health Zweli Mkhize considerings resigning following alleged involvement in tender scandal

South African Health Minister Zweli Mkhize is considering resigning over an investigation into a tendering scandal, according to two people familiar with the matter.

President Cyril Ramaphosa discussed with Mkhize three options, including that he be moved out of cabinet in a reshuffle or that he voluntarily step aside temporarily while the probe continues, said one of the people who asked not to be identified because they’re not authorized to speak about the matter. The third option is that Mkhize quit, the person said.

Mkhize didn’t answer his phone or respond to a request for comment sent by mobile phone.

Why move him out of cabinet and keep him earning a salary paid for by us, the taxpayers? Suspend him pending the outcome of the investigation. If he's guilty, fire him and prosecute along with everyone else involved.

They will give him some obscure portfolio in a cabinet re-shuffle so he can sit quietly in a corner somewhere for a couple of years, still earning big bucks and then they will bring him back into the limelight.

not really, as Zuma demonstrated a few times the president can summarily dismiss a minister ... why doesn't he when it is justified?
Resigning would show detractors that his faction step aside when caught with hand in cookie jar. He can hire and fire but this is politics (as you should know) where appearance are more telling.

Serious question - if the tenders had gone to Digital Vibes and they managed to squeeze the juice out of every single cent, whether or not that cent was appropriately awarded, would anyone really have an issue with the tender?

In South African politics you can't just fire a cabinet minister because every minister in the cabinet is there because they bring a huge constituency with them that might be useful in the future. They're certainly not there because they're good at their job. Every time you see a useless cabinet minister and wonder why Cyril doesn't just fire him/her, it's because of that.
