Ministers can get free electricity because we can lose our jobs at any moment — Mondli Gungubele

South African ministers get free electricity and water because they have poor job security and have to pay expensive medical aid contributions.

That is according to the minister in the presidency, Mondli Gungubele, who was recently interviewed by SAfm over a controversial amendment to the ministerial handbook reported by Rapport and City Press last week.
Good. They are hard at work for our benefit.

They must keep hounding it, let every body in SA know about this, how so many are suffering but their bills are covered.

Im surprised there isn't some protest about this, or form of chaos.

They openly admitted to abusing tax funds for personal gain.

Public servants have poor job securities, must think all of us are idiots, this guys deserves an F for the explanation, surely they could find a better reason than this lol...
But I wish they keep doing greedy crap like this, keep pissing off more and more people and hopefully things can start to change in the next election.

It is technically not abusing tax funds for personal gain, yes it is immoral but its still not abusing tax funds for personal gain.

If you insist it is then you will have a problem explaining why is is this an abuse of tax funds and the other perks they receive are not. That's why no one of the opposition parties has ran to the courts about it.

Yeah, its tough, I really feel for these guys...

The high medical aid is easily fixed. Pre-94 the ministers went to public hospitals (and sent their kids to public schools). Admittedly the ones they used were better funded than some of the others, but it shows that it can be done.

I know its not technically, but given that it's a private residence, just one of those things. Just annoyed by it and how nothing is ever done about it, but that is the law I guess, it's allowed.

It's not a private residence, the free water and lights is at their Ministerial complexes where the official residences are. Yes it doesn't make much of a difference because no one one will opt to stay at their private houses if there's a state house with free amenities, but it's still an official residence.

What rubbish! Do ministers not think we have to also pay for expensive medical aid, and in fact many of us have had to steadily cut back on our medical aid cover as we just cannot afford such a large chunk of our income towards it. Contract workers are in the same boat regarding job security and all benefits for them are EXCLUDED. They just get a higher monthly sum without pension or anything else. It shows how absolutely disconnected these ministers are from what is happening with every day citizens.

So they have basically justified FREE rates, water and electricity now for a large chunk of the population too? What about the unemployed? They lose their houses if they can't pay their rates, water, electricity etc. Seriously this is the WORST motivation I had yet seen, and I'm including all the promises etc around SAA and Eskom. This basically spits in the faces of so many citizens.
