Ministers must fly economy class and buy their own cellphones

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni says there is a need to trim civil servant perks and stop wastages as the debt to GDP ratio is expected to rise to 71.3% in 2023.

This will include relooking at how much the public service spends on Ministerial cars, cellphone benefits and ensuring that everyone - including Ministers, the provincial executive and Mayors - travel economy class for all domestic flights.

that should save enough to satisfy world's hunger? Why so much sacrifice?

Cut the amount of ministers/deputy ministers, cut everyone of the governmental and SOE salaries by 15%. Senior execs get a special cut of 50%, cause if they were actually worth their salaries they'd be making profits.
Especially SOEs which are a freaking monopoly.

I'm fine if they cap the cars to R700k, but get rid of the drivers. Make those fat fscks drive themselves like the rest of us, while saving tens of millions...

I love this
Govt has to cut spending by R150bln

Don't worry, public servants will now buy their own phones and cars are limited to R700k whilst they still earn >R1mio per year to shout at each other in parliament and continue to racially divide the country.

Well done Tito...well done! That R150bln will be reached within the next 200years...right on time for the next African revolution!

R5 billion a year on cellphones, what!?

Even if you're buying R20k top of the line flagships that's still tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of phones and billions in airtime depending on the cellphone/airtime ratio. Every single year.

What. The. Fsck.

Excuse is they "work" en route which is how they also justify business class.

Then move everything to Pretoria or Cape Town, and cut domestic travel altogether.

Cut all fscking perks outside the BCEA and make them buy their own schit and drive their own cars or pay for their own drivers. You can afford to with those salaries. WTAF...
