There hasn't been anything on Nerina lately. Does anyone know whether she is just carrying on as though nothing had happened or has she gone underground too?

This is one of those cases where prison would be too good for them.
I don't want to be or sound flippant, but everything we have been saying for 6 months was already in place. That person is no different to the hundreds of folk that we have scoffed at. The difference is that his missus suffered a miscarriage. Many will suffer similar catastrophes.

Look, that's a terrible tragedy to have suffered. I know people who have gone through this and it's awful.
When both people lost their jobs this must've seemed like a quick fix to keep going a bit longer. Desperation is terrible...what's worth are the animals that prey on people like this. They're truly the vilest of people!

There are also different kinds of people. Those who look at the potential upside, and those that look at the risks.
I'm sure almost all of us here look at the risk of anything we do, and don't just invest willy nilly.

My wife is even more extreme. No shares, no ETFs, no unit trusts. Even the bank's "investment" accounts scared her, because investment means shares and stuff, and when you invest in shares you could lose money. She would rather keep her money in a 2% savings account and know that whatever she puts in will be there when she wants to take it out.

Others obviously jump on anything that promises lots of money quickly.

A term that I remember from varsity days that would have saved a lot of people in this whole mess is "Professional Skepticism". Although the definition below is auditing profession-specific, I think if this same approach was used for appraising all "opportunities" that may come your way, fewer people would be ensnared by the cesspool of career scammers.

“an attitude that includes a questioning mind, being alert to conditions that may indicate possible misstatement due to fraud or error, and a critical assessment of audit evidence.”

Hopefully Carte Blanche tell the story correctly and cover the main shills as well their dodgy past. As well as the destruction they have caused for so many people. Not just the fact that JS is missing.
And a healthy mention of dishonest.co.za.

Or from a risk-mitigation angle: Assume the highest risk, and then try and proof (own evidence, not stuff provided by 'salespeople') a lower risk

hey guys,

sorry if this was posted

I had to laugh at the evolution of scam artistry ... you must now pay to be in his inner circle for all he's wisdom and where to invest. Ok that sounds like a great idea, I must pay you now ( hire you) to scam me now. Its no longer Im going to tell you for free where Im going to scam you, its now pay me to tell you where Im going to scam you.
This was so painful to watch. This is the level of arrogance which unfortunately made the MTI scam so successful for its creators.

Be a little gentle with Carte Blanche. They had to cut over 6 hours of interviews and other info and footage down to 10 minutes.

The entirety of MTI is a long and winding tale with lots of mini rabbit holes that you could probably make a whole Netflix series out of. It's impossible to tell all of it, or even cover all of the important stuff in one segment.

While this wasn't in time to stop people from losing money, hopefully it will serve as a warning for those who are being approached by scammers right now.

I'm not defending them but Carte Blanche is (in my opinion) a decent investigative journalism program whose bills are paid by a media/entertainment company. We should temper our expectations accordingly. Again my opinion, but I think the best outcome we could have ever hoped for with Carte Blance is simply making the MTI leaders famous for all the wrong reasons so that they are unable to attempt another ponzi under their current identities in future.

And I think we know what the response from the likes of Cheri would have been on any sort of earlier Carte Blanche story while she still had influence: Fake! Freemasons! Russians! Big banks trying to silence us again! etc...

I'm afraid to say it but that may have been a good enough response for a lot of MTI investors.

Do not underestimate the cult-like nature of the schemes. It's always an "us against the world" mentality.

EDIT: Reading through this again, it does sound like I'm defending Carte Blanche. I'll leave the post as is and won't argue with anyone taking issue with my initial statement. I'm not a regular watcher of the show but I've been overall impressed with what I've seen over the years. I'll leave it at that.

Not even a Carte Blanche expose on Vaultage Solutions nudged the supposed investigations any further. (In fact Willie moved from Vaultage to MTI and continued to scam even though under investigation)

Expect the latest Carte Blanche episode nothing more than a bit of entertainment, wiped out from memory come Monday morning.
