In my experience you can't really dissuade people, they want to believe so much that nothing you say will convince them. In the end you mostly end up alienating them. And then they same people will just look for the next scam. If they would just put that much work into legit business, they'd be wealthy.

I know a group of people who've all done the following over the last couple of decades. It's the same bunch, that follow each other into these scams.
