Planning to give MIUI a try. I see the zip file is only 84 MB - what does this mean for the system partition?
Reason I ask, is i'm on the CM7 Hboot.
Will I have to go back to the stock hboot?
Or should I flash some other Hboot?
Or can I go ahead without changing from the CM7 Hboot?
All you have to do is flash it like you would CM7... ie copy it to SD card boot recovery and select the miui zip file for flash.
Just remember to back up and clear all cache before you do. Also recommended that you clear battery details and recon for best experiance.

Can someone tell me how much space is used/free on their system partition with miui. HTC desire.

Mine is still set to 250MB(standard) and I have 125 MB free with MIUI-110070. Don't play around much with partitions.
Phew, I've finally managed to root and flash MIUI onto my new SGS2 after several hours of trial & error and reading between the lines and I don't think I've actually caused any lasting damage
Looks great though, but do you really have to factory reset every time you flash a rom? And if so, is there an easy way to get your apps and stuff back?
Well depends on how much changed with the rom used. Some only replace some system files and the kernel where others like MIUI replace just about everything.
Best is to use something like Titanuim back-up for everything
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMS for SMS
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.CallLogBackupRestore for Call logs
And something like ES File Manager for the applications
I normally stay with MIUI so use the included back-up and restore feature to swap between MIUI roms
Forgive my newbieness on this one, but I've just flashed my 1st rom on a new phone and would like to stay with it. But to clarify, if I re-download the apps I had installed already, do the methods you mention mean I can somehow re install them from a back up through MIUI instead of downloading again the next time I flash?
That is correct. As for the MIUI back up you simply use restore when you lose anything between flashes.
You can always take it for a spin without flashing. To test it out. Go into backup and back up your device. Then uninstall something and test the recover

There are also a lot of apps missing that come bundled with the stock rom that I would like back such as the maps and gps apps so some major downloading is on the cards And do you have any idea where I can find the samsungapps app for so I can get tapatalk for free again. It's not on the market or samsung site![]()
HTC fan so don't know
Would advise Google and XDA to be your guide

Samsung Apps runs on the TouchWiz (TW) Framework that Samsung developed. Some folks over at the Galnet MIUI forums managed to hack the TW Framework to get it running on MIUI - best to go there and have a look. There are also a lot of apps missing that come bundled with the stock rom that I would like back such as the maps and gps apps so some major downloading is on the cards And do you have any idea where I can find the samsungapps app for so I can get tapatalk for free again.
