Cheers, I am downloading the Galnet ROM now and will flash it later for comparison with the miuiandroid from the UK. I'm back on the stock ROM at the moment and am backing up my apps and data with Titanium Pro hoping to restore later after I flash back to MIUI.

If i remember reading correctly, Galnet dropped the touchwiz framework from their roms a short while back. I think the last versions which had it were the twooey range. But those are so buggy I wouldnt recommend getting them...

I nosed about the forum there briefly and downloaded an update but haven't got round to flashing it yet. And now that I know what I know that I didn't know last night, I don't think I need to. I bought Titanium Pro and used that to back up the apps so that I get Tapatalk and everything else back onto a new ROM so no need for Samsung Apps site....which is pretty poor anyway to be fair.

So now I'm pretty confident and I've got a little routine going. I flash a ROM, reboot, d/l Titanium Pro again, back to CWM to fix permissions or Titanium won't work, reboot again, restore my apps through titanium, and backup the whole thing in CWM into a single ROM ready for restoring if I want to go back to it later.

So far I've being trying both latest and stable ROMS from miuiandroid.com and galnetmiui.co.uk on my SGS2. Maybe have a look at a few more over the next few days.

Im using the Desire MIUI from XDA and keep getting these OTA updates.

When I try to apply it, the phone reboots and when it's done loading I'm still on the same version as before and the download starts all over again.

Anyone have any exeprience with OTA's?

I had the same problem some time back with one update on my DHD. How I fixed it, I downloaded it manually and used the file manager to navigate to the actual rom, when I selected it, the phone prompted me if I want to install and on yes rebooted-flashed and worked again.

No problems with OTA's after that either... no clue what went wrong.

Going to read up again this weekend on how to flash Defy with MIUI. I just cant seem to get the guts to try it.

Question...does Google Nav work on these custom roms?

Sort out your reboot problem first. I still think you have a hardware problem.

Well, I read in one of the Motorola support threads of a guy who seems to have the same problem and resolved his by doing this:

restarting issue I managed to reduce by switching on the debugging mode (which as far as I know is not recommended for security reasons). So overall I and a lot of other people were somewhat disappointed with the update.

I have now enabled debugging mode also and will see how it goes. It looks there are lots of people complaining about the same thing as me.

A question for those that loaded either the MIUI.us or the Galnet MIUI ROM that are on the Vodacom network, did you have to change your Radio? and if so, from where did you obtain that radio?

No, no problems.

I want to install MIUI and just want to make sure that if I needed a new radio, I downloaded it before I start flashing the ROM.

Hi guys. I found this link with instructions on how to install MIUI. I just want u guys to check it and see if it is correct. It looks too simple to me?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264798

I have downloaded z4root in case I need to root my phone before flashing the ROM....but before I root or do anything else...I would really appreciate it if you guys can check it and see if it has all the steps that I would need. Sorry...I am very pedantic about these things. I want to know exactly what to do. I really dont want to brick my phone.

Seems about right. I think all phones (except for the HTC's) are pretty much the same (from what I've seen at least).

For my phone (Galaxy S) it's:
>Root
>Install CWM (needs root)
>Boot into recovery and install via zip

Some people say you have to flash back to Android V2.2 (FroYo) to flash MIUI, which is what I did, but a lot of people don't do it and they flashed fine strait from Gingerbread.

-----------------------

Q: Just put my external SD in. Now where do I find it in file manager? When I mount storage via the USB cable the SD card pops up but I can't find it anywhere on the phone.

Cool...great. I am planning on downloading my ROM from MIUIAndroid site: http://miuiandroid.com/roms/

Do these ROMS support South African Frequency bands? TheThug mentioned further up about maybe needing a new Radio file or something? Sorry about all the questions...I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.

Prity much what VeNGeNCe said:

Root,

Install bootloader in this case 2ndInit instead of CMW(ClockWorkMod)

And Flash:
3. Boot into Custom BootMenu by pressing volume down when device flashes a blue led at bootup. Set default boot mode to 2nd init.
4. Select Recovery, Custom Recovery. Choose "Wipe Data/Cache" option and next select "Wipe Cache" then go to Advanced and select "Wipe Dalvik Cache".
5. Choose Install .zip from SD Card, select MIUI rom .zip.

Q: Just put my external SD in. Now where do I find it in file manager? When I mount storage via the USB cable the SD card pops up but I can't find it anywhere on the phone.

Try installing ES File Explorer if you dont come right with included File Manager.
