Do these ROMS support South African Frequency bands? TheThug mentioned further up about maybe needing a new Radio file or something? Sorry about all the questions...I just want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row.
On Radio's:
Don't worry about it, only time you need to start looking for other radio's is if the ROM you use causes your calls to drop or WiFi suffers some performance issues. You can later when you happy with your phone or really want to tinker try and find the radio that squeezes the most out of your battery.
Normally I would advise the not so informed to rather try other MIUI roms instead of flashing the radio as well. In my DHD's case I find that the MIUI.us builds are the best.

No need for that dude, you could have used Virtual box and a Emu with USB share
Or you could have just followed This guide but using the Android SDK for Linux...
Guys....I think something has gone wrong!!!!! My phone wont get past the motorola boot logo. I have done a data wipe as per this post:
