2 questions ( have a Desire S with standard everything )

1. Why should I use MIUI?
2. If I don't like it can I go back to the original ROM?

You can go back to original yes. Same as with any other rom flash.
MIUI, the little that I used it, is very fast, left about 400Mb of my RAM open on DHD where sense roms leave only 100Mb, its got a very clean, very slick interface too. Alot worth liking.

All I dont like is the lack of widgets I had after a vanilla MIUI.us flash, and of coarse I managed to delete the Dialer shortcut from the bottom launcher and could not find a way to put it back, so was forced to revert to ARHD. Lol, will try it again when I have more time and Mb's to play.

Have successfully now loaded MIUI.us ROM and have restored my apps.

I also figured out what I did wrong with my last attempt.

Now to learn the rom and to setup the phone the way I want it.

Anyone know any reason as to why I can receive sms's but cannot connect to internet?

The HSPA icon is displayed and the arrows surrounding it flash on and off but gmail tells me no connection as does twitter etc.

In Mobile Network Settings, data is enabled; Use Wireless nNtworks under my location is also enabled as is Background Data under Accounts & Sync settings.

Baseband version is EPU93_U_00.59.01

That sound exactly like something someone had earlier in the thread. I think they fixed it by enabling 3G only and then turning off data and turn it back on... or something like that.

If it was me I would start looking at other radio's or radio interface files, but its not something I would advice if you dont know what your doing.

You can and you will BRICK your phone if you stuff up or flash the wrong ones.

I'll see how it goes but I'd rather reload CM7 than play around with Radio's.

I notice that in WhatsApp, I cannot select a ring tone other than which the system assigns to it and if I select "Local resource" which I would have imagined listed all the default ringtones/notification tones, the page is blank.

It would appear that Whatsapp doesn't like being restored. A fresh install was required.

Aaah that bit of info would have really helped, I normally never restore applications, only settings. Good to know for future as I dont use Whatsapp either.

What is the battery life like in general?

After installing MIUI and a full charge, I reset the battery cache and managed 12 hours on a full charge with very some email and whatsapp usage.

My DHD last about 2 days + with moderate use. 3G always on.

What I have learned after flash is to clear the battery cache and go through 2 proper charge cycles where I run it completely flat and charge it to full before I charge it as normal.

For some reason the phone lost data connectivity again which was now the second time within a week.

So I've now gone back to CM7.1.

Only thing I can think of is the Radio and RIL files on the ROMs you using do not match your device. I can understand if you dont want to play with them but I totally fixed up my problems I had in the start by using my own radio and RIL on my old Desire, as for my DHD I am just glad the MIUI.us ROM match my device 100%.

Its strange that the Radios & RIL files don't match up. MIUI.us is based on CM7 and I would have thought that the base files would all have been the same.

My phone slows down and then sometimes just freezes completely needing a battery release.

Class 4 SD, Xpart with 1gb ext4 and the rest FAT32. I formatted using gpart, not sure what is causing this.

Do I need a special script?
