Sorry? I have read that document, and it seems largely a case of beating the numbers to meet a preconceived outcome. Nonetheless, it does not mention anywhere a drop in deaths from road accidents or murders due to any crackdown.

There's no benefit for Zwele to report correctly. Reporting correctly means that the state of emergency is over and has been over since end April 2020.

My mother has cancer and got her treatment during lockdown. Not every medical issue was locked down. Sure, if you want a facelift it wasn't going to get done as it was non-essential.

Private healthcare? Most government hospitals weren't taking immediately life threatening cases and not just cosmetic procedures.

Well, yes and no. Crowd size is, and these things would get out of hand. You'd have a bunch of irresponsible teenagers going to the Rage party and then mixing outside of it. It has happened like this for donkeys years.
But also the parents should know better. Why chance this? We have 2 kids of 10 and 8 and they never had playdates during harder lockdown like others were. It was just trying to "adult" and make the right choices.
Unfortunately, for the large majority of people following the rules and trying to ensure that this whole issue of masks etc goes away quickly, that won't be the case. So we will all have to wait longer.

Not the case. The more people getting it the quicker we reach herd immunity and the quicker it's over. A lot of places have already reached herd immunity. The ones where we are seeing minor spikes are those that have adhered so much to the restrictions that not a lot of people had it. Maybe these raves are exactly what's needed to finish the natural progression. 60% of people were always going to get it so all measures simply delay the inevitable. My only issue is that these kids may infect the vulnerable. Those people should be isolating as much as possible anyway.

Yes, of course, more tests are being done, but that is not through government coercion but because more people are getting infected (also the positivity rate has risen from approx. 7.5 percent to around 18 percent). Also as most of us on MyBB have private medical care, we'd know the cost of taking a test is just below R1000 or so, and you have to pay it out of your own pocket if the test is negative. I just don't see so many people just randomly taking a covid-19 test with no symptoms. Furthermore, in the Western Cape hospital admissions have increased from a low of around 500 to 1600, and that is definitely something that cannot easily be faked. So shove your conspiracy theories elsewhere, please.

It's quite easy to do more tests if you want more cases on the books. They even asked those who attended the KZN Rage to come forward and be tested, without knowing if more of them have it than the general population. Of course if you do more tests you'll have more cases and not the other way around. As for the positivity rate, quite easy to fake too if you focus on people you think have it and don't test those you don't. Oh and the longer this plays out the more false positives you get. That was expected. It indicates herd immunity.

The real measure should be the death rate. That has been steady since the end of hard lockdown.

We keep hearing how governments are using this crisis to drive an agenda. I'm still trying to work out how it benefits governments to wreck economies, create massive unemployment while eroding their tax base...

Is that not what the ANC have been doing this last 26 years? It seems to have benefited them.
