MMA (Mixed Martial Arts)

Yeah. Sean's a one tricky pony. Very one dimensional fighter. Tough as nails, with a destructive jab, super fit too, moves well, hard to hit but no kicking or grappling game to talk of.

Dricus is the polar opposite.

Anyway, Khamzat likely to be Dricus next opponent. Totally different ball game. Much more challenging fight/fighter. As a neutral I'm far more worried about him than Sean. Guys 14 and 0 with 6 takedowns and 6 knockouts. Like Dricus, Khamzat has many ways to beat you, where Strickland relies heavily on out punching/out jabbing his opponents.

Should be a great fight.
I think you are on the money here... though with Khamzat, half the battle is him getting into the ring.

This will be DDP's toughest fight, if it ever happens. Then if it actually works out he might get in the ring with Pirera.

That will be quite an insane career.

No need to adjust if you’re clearly getting ahead. Didn’t look like he was looking for the takedown. The seemed by opportunity.
I saw in one of the interviews he mentioned that his coach had a specific game plan he had to follow and this was it.

Honestly I don't see DDP beating either Khamzat or Alex, but I hope to be wrong.
Have a little faith brotha...

As for me, I'm done doubting Dricus.
I can't understand what he does (not alone here) but it works for him and he keeps winning.

I can see him getting through Khamzat.
I alluded to the Burns fight earlier in the thread, Dricus is bigger and stronger than Burns.
Khamzat does have KO power and an elite wrestling base though.

Poatan at 205 is a different proposition all together.
I actually see an easier path here for Dricus though; hear me out.
Pereira hasn't been tested, which high level grappler has he faced? From his opponents who can grapple, they chose to stand with him.
Dudes got absolute dynamite in his hands, don't give the space, mix it up and make the fight dirty.
There was a clip with DC and Islam. DC is waxing lyrical about how untouchable Alex is, Islam asks which grappler has he fought?

I guess we'll find out in his next fight, hopefully Ankalaev also doesn't decide to just stand with him until he goes to sleep.

another sad one i read is shara bullet retiring cause of his eyes rumours
The issue with his depth perception was obvious with MVP, especially when MVP was doing the up kick. It was far from him but he over reacted heavily. I think he could have been a serious contender if his eyes were better.

The main adjustment he made for the Strickland fight is also going to pay dividence in the Khamzat fight. That is not overthrowing over the top and loosing his balance like all of his fights before this, that was my Khamzat concern. That would have been a gift to any predominately wrestler and how he got taken down by Brunson.

The fact Dricus is clearly coachable makes him the favourite for me over Khamzat. But agree Khamzat is his biggest challenge after this its dealing with the middle, guys like Imavov .etc which he would breeze through.

His coach is clearly smart and Dricus follows the plan, most fighters always fall back to their main style and get stuck there no matter what they get told between rounds. Thats a mark of an unusual fighter and deserving champion.

Poatan is pipe dreams at this point. More than enough to do in his own division.

yeah you could see something was wrong there

Did not watch ddp v strickland 2

But at least this one was not at all contentious as to who won.

I still think Strickland was the dominant fighter in the first fight, who was waiting for the latter rounds to go to town on ddp. Then the gash happened and it was overs.

Still - even if it is 1 : 1 - I don't think there is the slightest appetite for a 3rd. From anyone.

Don't think anyone has much appetite left to see Strickland fight in general.
Amazing how your career can just plummet after one fight.
Uncle Dana still seems to rate him though so there's that.

Yeah there is still some interest probably from Izzy to try and get that loss back or perhaps a Sean vs Whitaker fight would also do well so I am sure he will be around the top 5 for the next year at least but I highly doubt he will fight for a title again unless Khamzat wins.

It's not, go cry somewhere else.

I actually think he has a poor self-image. That much bravado is a bit telling. Way ott, but he let's the veil slip every now and then.

He could be a much better fighter. I only recently realized he doesn't watch his opponents fight videos before a fight i.e. as part of his preparation. It's some kind of macho thing where he thinks benefiting from studying your opponent is a sign of weak character or something.

When he won the belt he almost looked completely surprised. Another thing is how a SM following can lead to a bit of a distorted view.

and he never makes weight and if he gets sick again its another 6 months recovery.

The dude should already be fighting for the belt but seems to just trip himself up every time.
He is like JJ but instead of getting drunk he just does stupid things.
