Help pse
I have taken this up with V3g but I would like to know if anybody can possibly assist with the display of MMS video clips received on the N70.

The problem seems to have happened since I upgraded the FW to V5.0609.2.0.1.

Before upgrading, MMS received video clips displayed as follows:

Properties display resolution as 176x144

After the upgrade, the MMS video clips are displayed like this:

Properties display resolution 352 x 288

I have tried all the different MMS settings on the N70 including deleting all the APN's and re-installing them.
I have also used different VC simcards in the N70.
I have also done a hard reset of the N70.
Used the normal and VliveMMS APN.
Changing the display to landscape does not fix the problem.
Plus a lot of other things I can't recall...

However, when I use an MTM simcard in the N70 the video is displayed correctly. I also noticed that when the video is displayed by the installed Realplayer, the MMS received with the voda simcard shows the message has 1 slide but when the MTN simcard is installed, the MMS shows the message has 2 slides.

The sending device can be loaded with either an MTN or Voda simcard but the N70 displays the video incorrectly with a voda simcard loaded.

Old videos received before the upgrade are still displayed correctly - only the ones received after the u/grade display incorrectly even if saved first.

Does this sound like incompatible APN settings on the VC network?

Suggestions re a possible solution would be appreciated

Come come, where all the brains on this forum??!?

You know my take on this one already (wrong UAProf), but I'll put a few beers on it in any case...

I would think the silence is a direct relation to the number of N70's out there at the moment :)

The Engineering guys are looking into this at the moment, I think you were copied on the mail.

Yes thanks again V3g - hope they can sort it out. I would have imagined that there are tons of N70's out there by now.. but probably not all with the u/graded FW.

hi V3G - I spoke to one of the engineering guys for quite a while today and after some testing, the problem still persists. :( . I even send a Vid MMS to their test N70 and it displays fine.

They have however managed to ascertain that the software upgrade done to my phone by Nokia is a different variant to the one loaded on their test N70, which is working fine after the UAPROF changes were sent through today.

I will have to take the phone for another software flash to the latest variant of the software later this week - they will confirm to me once the new software has been deployed to the vodacare centres (bloody Nokia.. or should I say Exactmobile...who are running the Nokia agency now).

If this does'nt work, I will take the phone to the enginering guys.

..soo atm I am back to a 6600.

Check with the engineering guys if you can't take it to Vodaworld to have it reflashed there.

N70 - different firmware versions

Terrible when you try and force any possible fix into a problem description!

Still believe it's the UAProf. I understand the firmware versions (between you and the engineers) are different?

Sorry, feel guilty for hi-jacking that other post.

lol.. it did make some sort of sense though you have to admit. They have kindly offered to swop my N70 out for a new one with the upgraded firmware which they have tested and works.

Have arranged that they will collect the old one and deliver the new one tomorrow morning.

Apparently it will take a few days to have the new firmware propogated through the systems to all the vodacare centres and a quickfix would be just to replace my N70 - will let you know tomorrow how it turns out.

Matter resolved

Copy of e-mail sent this morning to staff involved at Vodacom re this issue:

Gentlemen

I have received the replacement phone and it works 100%.

In this regard, I wish to express my appreciation to all concerned in sorting out the issue for me as well as the replacement of the phone.

Again much appreciated. It is good to know that 'service excellence' is still practised by some companies in this country.

Kind regards to all

Thanks again V3G - I'm a 'happy chappy' :D

 what was the cause of the MMS problem on the previous N70? Was a firmware update attempted, and did it not solve the problem...?

Latest firmware (loaded 4/7/2006):
v5.0609.2.0.1
01-03-06
RM-84

@ic When I got the N70, the firmware was v 2.0539.1.2 19-10-05 rm-84. I took it to Vodaworld (Nokia) and they upgraded the phones software to the version above (minus the vLive content). However, after the upgrade the video MMS's were not displaying correctly (as shown above).

After V3G got me in contact with their engineers it was established that the variant of the software Nokia installed was different to the one Vodacom received and tested (which incidentally has the same version number). Also, as mentioned, the Nokia software version did NOT have the VLive adapted software.

The new version installed yesterday has again got the VLive software included.

This should also be a caution to people who upgrade their own firmware via a hack received off the internet - various variants of a specific version of the firmware exists and may not be 100% compatible with the local networks - (I did consider this but the warrenty issue made me back off).

*Now where is that 3 yr old 6600 - I must give this firmware flashing a try - sounds like fun

6600 - stil one of my favourites, nice form factor.

On the Vlive software, it's more a mapping of a button for easy access to the Vlive portal and pre-configured settings than anything else.

There is no 'VLive' software running on the phone, so all this talk of getting rid of the 'Vodafone' software does not really amount to much. If you don't like the Vodafone skin (and some of them can be pretty 'red'!), you can change it.

So at worst, one button tends to have a different function, and that's pretty much it.

On the downside, a non-VLive phone might present a different ID to the network (than a Vlive one) and thus could be handled incorrectly. This was the case with adsl3g's phone; same firmware but different ID's. So one works, the other does not.

Yes, as if Vodafone 'writes' the software....it's all written by Nokia....
