Mmusi Maimane will resign as DA leader

I hear you and don't have all the answers. It is gonna take some serious soul searching by the DA to get things right again. IMO they do need to elect another black leader and encourage and bring through more black people in positions of power if they want the black vote. Though I could be wrong and middle class black voters might be ready to vote for a white face.

Remember the DA/DP has always been a one man one vote party. During the apartheid years they campaigned for this. It is only through the ANC's vilification of the DA that they have become the white party, when that has never been what they represented.

This could all be undone though if there is a split and another party is formed.

I expect more leaders from the Maimane faction to resign during the coming days. It will be interesting to see what happens. Mmusi did say today that he is looking forward "to the next chapter" and I find it hard to believe that he, Mashaba and Trollip will all stay out of politics.

They may form a party and if they do, it will appeal to the moderate black middle class. The DA will probably be around 14% of the vote by the next election.

So what are your predictions? I foresee Madikizela being elected as the new leader, in line with keeping the DA firmly in the WC and also since he was overlooked for the position of the WC premier.

A good guy but remember that he is probably on the left (former ANC member as well). Left-leaning policy does not sit well with a lot of DA members.

Steenhuisen is another choice but a bit of a prick. I met him in real life.

He addressed quite a few things discussed on the forum the last couple of years:

"However, over the past months, it has become quite clear to me that there exists a grouping within the DA who do not see eye to eye with me, and do not share this vision for the party and the direction it was taking. There has been for several months a consistent and coordinated attempt to undermine my leadership and ensure that either this project failed, or I failed."

“This extended to the smear campaign that was run on the front pages of an Afrikaans weekly paper in an attempt to destroy my name and my integrity. This cowardly behaviour has put my wife and two young children in great danger as pictures of our home were published in the media.”

On Zille's twitter :

"Make no mistake, along the journey there have been many difficulties. I fought battles with Helen Zille, especially regarding her comments – and the impact of her comments – as it pertained to colonialism."

I think the most pertinent:

“And in the end we have come to the conclusion that despite my best efforts, the DA is not the vehicle best suited to take forward the vision of building One South Africa for All,”

I hope they don't open a new party, we have too many parties, what they should if they want to remain in politics is to approach Lekota, their position on many things is similar. I believe Cope can use their expertise if Lekota is wise enough to accept that he has run out of ideas.

I was thinking about that too but Lekota became a bit of a meme when he met with Steve Hofmeyr to support him on the land issue (probably in an attempt to get on the fence white voters) which subsequently failed.

He is doing all these funny things because as I say he has run out of ideas to stay relevant, from the Hofmeyr thing to accusing Ramaphosa of being an apartheid spy. He just needs someone to breathe new life into Cope.

Mmusi Maimane: vroeg ryp, vroeg vrot. Too much pressure, too much responsibility, too soon in his young life. Too many expectations, based on his black skin.

The epitome of race-based AA in this country, doomed to failure.

Proudly brought to you by Helen Zille.
Whilst she, as his "mentor" and "madam", certainly needs to take some of the blame for his failure, it's not as if he was entirely without fault. Icarus was given wings, and against all good advice, thought that he was invincible and flew too close to the sun.

I blame the party for this. Not him. He was made leader because they fast-tracked him after all, he was elected in a democratic process and a lot of his naysayers where the ones praise-singing for him around five years ago.

Does this mean the end of the Purple Cow party?
Only if Mmusi joins them and fahks it up too ...

Seriously though, purple cow has too many realistic, workable, libertarian style ideas, the average voter in ZA simply will never comprehend and therefor will vote for someone else.
